Had today off so I visited the range this morning. I was firing some 147 grain underwood through my Taurus 92, when after one shot I felt something VERY hot land on my left (non-firing) hand. After very rapidly putting my pistol on safe and benching it, I looked in my hand and found.. a primer. Apparently it ejected itself from first the brass and then my pistol. Is this a very bad thing? As in, should I not fire the rest of this ammunition? (I stopped shooting it after this incident).

Fresh factory or reloaded/remanfactured? I've seen this happen a couple of times. Primer pockets were enlarged from too many firings. And of course varying manufacturing tolerances can cause too large a hole even in new unfired cases.

If it's fresh and not reloaded ammunition, contact the manufacturer.

It does happen even on factory ammo, that's why military ammo has the primer pocket swagged to prevent it from being knocked out. Tolerances misaligned in your case, so that the primer pocket is large and the primer cup is small.

Some brands of primers are a very loose fit in some brands of cases. I have never understood why everybody can't seem to get on the same page with components but there are a lot of variations.

Well yeah the recoil was pretty stout on every round. They are marketed as +p+

A blown primer is very undesirable.
It might be from excess pressure or a worn out case... or some combination.

Underwood is very proud of their heavily loaded ammunition and since this is cataloged as new production and +P+, it is likely they have a bit too many plusses in their powder measure.

There is no standard for +P+, it is whatever they think the guns will stand. The hundred fps over their mere +P. for which there is a SAAMI specification, does not come for free in terms of chamber pressure.

Wow. I have seen loose primers and blown primers but I have never seen one that ejected separately from the case. Just one more reason to handload.
