I've been following the discussions over on the Spyderco forums, sounds pretty interesting, especially run hard since at full hardness ~65 HRC, it has better toughness than S30V or S35VN run at ~60-62 HRC. Can't wait to try some!

Interesting read, and I look forward to see the offerings from knife companies. I really like my S35VN, M390/20CV blades. Certainly wouldn't mind even higher grade stuff though.

It is good to see that the search for better knife steels continues. If they develop the perfect alloy, however, what will we do with all these inferior blades?

SELL ALL YOUR KNIVES RIGHT NOW!..... indeed. Isn't that what is so often implied?:D

I crack up more than a little whenever someone tries to breathlessly tell me about a *new* blade; grind, heat-treat, or material that will change everything.

I'm a bit Goldilocksy in the field.

Soft enough to sharpen *easily* without being weak.

Hard enough to hold an edge without being difficult or tech-necessary to sharpen.

Corrosion resistant enough to not queer the edge due to a bit of humidity.

All that in a pleasing and useful shape sums up my parameters. Oh, and leather!

Like as not, a guy starts quoting math of showing graphs to me.... he's talking to the wrong fella.

Todd.

Still waiting for knives made with Rearden Steel .......
Now THAT, I would buy.... If only Henry would show himself.;)

Never needed him more than now.:cuss:

I'm rather surprised one of these Johnny-come-lately types hasn't co-opted the name. Literary breadth understood.

Todd.

Japanese swords would be under tech'd and obsolete too.

The technology to produce these steel formulations is interesting. Not one of the supply areas to stock up on since it changes every few years. I bought a bunch of 440-C from a retired maker long ago and that steel sits gathering dust. :(
