I have 3 pistols I need to sell at a gunshow this weekend. What's the best way to advertise the pistols as I walk around? I'm afraid if I don't advertise some way, people will think I just bought these instead of selling them.

I know this sounds stupid, but I thought of putting a sign on my shirt stating "Pistols for sale".

What was your most successful way of selling pistols at gunshows?

You got it...

You hit the nail right on the head. I put a cardboard sign on my chest with the guns/prices I have for sale. Never come home with any. Lots of folks do that here in Texas...

Want to really attract attention. Put on sign: "I Sell Shyt Cheap".
Seriously though the wearing of a sign is the best method to advertise.

That works at every gun show I've ever attended in Florida. Main thing is to make the MFGR name large enough to read about 10 feet away.

I've sold three guns at gun shows this way. I take a piece of paper and a black marker with a wide tip and write the brand, model, condition and price on it. The guns I have sold have been in "as new" condition and that really attracts attention. In fact the last gun I sold was to a dealer that had a booth set up and I sold it for only $15 less than I had paid for it. I then attatch it to the back of a T shirt with clear packaging tape and then slip it on. BTW, I suggest that you don't make any stops along the way, you'll get some strange looks.:D Mike

Prezzz,

Carrying a sign is a good idea, but many potential buyers milling through the show tables will be ahead of you, behind you, or attending on a different day, and will miss your sign completely.

Have you considered renting a table, and perhaps splitting table space with another person? Having a table means everyone at the show will see your sale items, and your chances for a sale are much greater.

Sharing table space allows you and the other person to take turns tending the goods, while the other has a chance to see the show, grab coffee, chat with other exhibitors, etc.

More importantly, it also helps support your show organizers, or club, and most of them need all the help they can get staying in business.

No, I sure haven't thought of that Bill. I'll have to check into the cost of the tables when I go this time.

I've seen many folks walking around with signs. Long guns are even easier because you can have the sign above everyones head.

An alternative to renting a table is make a sign and stand near the entrance or exit so everyone has to pass you and read your sign. Or take a lawn chair and sit just outside the door.

I think the sign idea is a winner. Make sure you bring along a marker to line out the one's you have already sold.

I have seen this done many a time at gun shows in Oregon, Washington State and California (when they still allowed them).
