Brought my .243 Remington 700 out to the range yesterday as it was a beautiful day in the 60s with almost no wind and the serac its wearing refused to focus at 100yds. If I squinted a bit i could make out the 1" dot I use for targets when I'm shooting a load ladder, which i was. Results was a shotgun pattern all over the paper. I was shooting a known 1/2 moa load but had changed to new starline brass so I of course I wanted to verify accuracy. I had bought it when they were less than $100 like many others on this site, maybe 200 rounds passed under it. I can only surmise you get what you pay for.

I think you hit the nail on the head

To sell a scope for less than $100 means the company has to cut corners to manufacture it. A lot of corners.

Scopes in this class are usually intended for airsoft play and not suited for range or field duty on real guns.

You have a nice rifle and care enough about accuracy to reload and invest time at the range.

Invest a little more in your optics. It may seem like a you saved money but in reality you lost $100

I bought the same scope and used it in my my 20" AR build for a couple months. At anything beyond about half of its full magnification the picture was so cloudy it was basically useless. It's sitting and collecting dust now

I figured we'd see posts about Serac scope failures when I read all the posts about the "good deals" on them a year or two ago.

Hope they take care of the issue under warranty.

I've been pretty lucky with a couple of the Chinese made Cabelas Covenant scopes, one is almost 10 years old. The little objective ring on one of them worked it's way loose, but has been fine since I tightened it.

Two different Japanese Vortex Razor scopes gave me trouble. On one, the seals in the turrets must have swelled because I could no longer turn them. They repaired it under warranty.

The other stopped focusing beyond 500 yards and they replaced it.
