SG now has MilSurp 7.62 X 51. Anyone know what kind it is?

Pretty sure "OFV" is an Indian headstamp.

Yes, the OFV headstamp is Indian ammo. Stay away, far away from this stuff.

I loved that Indian stuff, the 1990s in the plastic sleeves, in my 2A1. Very reliable and good accuracy. I would definitely try more.

guys...its boxer....it may smell bad, it may shoot like crap, and you might have to do a sight QC on the stuff as it goes into the rifle magazine, but its still a bit cheaper than most other stuff...

I am sitting on about 1K and am going through half of it pulling bullets and dumping powder...in 120 rounds so far I have come across 2 primers that were mashed on insertion, 4 necks damaged beyond belief, and 4 weird looking bullet cores on the back side...other than that, the bullets were all good and the brass looked good...plan on throwing charges of either AA2520 or another ball powder for use in my FAL...I have invested in a DSA scope-mount and brass catcher for the old girl so I don't have to worry about throwing brass all over the place. :)

I plan on getting a few K more if it holds out long enough....

Good stuff, that 70's Indian. The Fury of the Curry...:)

Anywho, as is the case with SG sometimes, if you got in before they jacked the price up, you were good to go. Personally, I'm not gonna plunk down 25 cents a round for it since I got mine at 6 cents a round, but if I didn't have much x51 laying around, I wouldn't run away from it.

You can fix Indian ammo QA problems yourself.

Sort the ammo ... throw out any round that has visible defects.

Then weigh each round and sort by weight.

Put the heaviest and lightest 20%, and the visibly defective rounds in a bin marked Malf Drill practice ammo.

Actually ... ANY surplus ammo would benefit from this kind of sort.

It's Indian. If you're just seeing it now, you'll get raped on the price. On 1 Dec. it was $65 per 400, then the Falfiles found it, people started ordering, and less than 24 hrs later, it got jacked up to $90 per 400.

It's $99 per 400 now. Still pretty cheap compared to commercial.

I got 4k of the 86' headstamp from jgsales back in 04' for $95/k,

the stuff was in 10rnd blister pack and looked good, had pretty decent luck, only one failed to fire,

    got 3 to 3 1/2" 5shot groups at 100yrd outta my AR10A4c,

I've seen some in shops and gunshows though that I'd be leary of, it was packed in a 50cal can and had small neck splits and corrosion on the case.
