Yes she does! Last week on The Today Show they had a article on the dangers of Texting and walking. 6000 people in the US died in 2017 because of it!! Where is the outrage of this from this? I'd like someone to ask Hoog boy what he thinks of this and if he will call for boycotts and anti smartphone laws. It's all about making things safe right.

While she's right, it won't impress the antigunners. They'll just whine "b-b-but guns were designed to kill, cell phones weren't."
The real problem is how to demonstrate to the antis the truth in a manner that can overcome their usually irrational objections to guns.

Video wouldn't play.
Just checked, still worked in Firefox version 59.0.2 but I did have to "temporarily allow all this page" in NoScript

My friend that sent it to me said that Gmail was blocking (stripping) the link as an attachment so he sent it to me embedded in a pdf, but I initially played it back in Chrome without issues.

I'm reminded of the old saying: "Never ascribe to treachery or malice that which can be adequately explained by incompetence or stupidity"

edit: Not aiming this at JTH, could be interpreted that way when I reread it, I mean just because an embedded link doesn't work don't jump to the conclusion that Google, Facebook, etc. are censoring or conspiring against us.
OTOH, "just because you're paranoid, don't mean they aren't after you!" :)

According to common online stats 11 teens die every DAY due to texting and driving. According to the Washington Post there have been 250 teachers or students killed in school shootings since 2000. That's 15 deaths per YEAR in school shootings.

There are about 6,000 pedestrian deaths per year due to texting/phone use while walking. That's about 15 deaths every DAY from using phones while walking.

We all know guns are designed to kill, and we all know cell-phones were not designed to kill.
Having said this cell-phones must have a fatal flaw that causes them to cause the deaths they never were intended to cause.

Long guns of any kind kill about 250-300 people a year.
And that includes use by police and citizens in lawful self defense.
So we all know that banning AR’s is just their first step to their dream utopia of no guns in civilian hands.
At least civilians who they have contempt for.

Not too many people set out to text and walk with the intention of being the cause of death of numbers of other people.

Thats true. But Is it the cell phone that kills or the person using it not paying attention? It's the people obviously just like in all mass shootings. But if you follow the rational of Hoog boy and the anti gunners it's the cell phone. So they should look to restrict or ban items that cause the most deaths if they really want to save lives right? Wheres their outrage on cigarettes that many kids smoke or the big one, vehicles? They can save 10,000 of thousands of lives yearly. Remember this is the generation that is posting all this stupidity on social media, eating detergent pods and now snorting condoms up their nose and trying to pull it out through their mouth. I don't want them making laws for me or my family.

I am afraid that she is just preaching the truths to the choir. History tells us that these events of power shifting have to be met with like force. When they come (and they will come), we will have to choose between stand-your-ground principle or surrender. They will not stop unless they are stopped. Good shooting.

She makes several good points.

Unlike firearms are not designed to "hook" or addict users to their use, and cell phones/digital devices are. They are several factors more addictive to younger minds than older, as well. Which doubles the risk with inexperienced drivers.

So, in a pickup truck occupied by teen drivers with digital devices, the least dangerous thing inside that vehicle would be an AR-15 in a rifle rack. And by a factor of about ten.

ARs, firearms do not bully teens, they do not create insurmountable peer pressure either. They are not windows into dystopian "glory" either. They are but firearms. Using one does not "bomb" people nearby to enroll in games which give up identity information.

Sadly, these dangerous, invasive, exploitative devices are a necessary part of everyday life as an adult. Yet, we can easily make a case that our teens should be forced to decide whether they want a car, or a digital device. It's also clear that age limits ought to be in place, too. But, that is unlikely to occur.

While I agree completely with her point, and I really do, the obvious problem is that cell phones are also inanimate objects, they have not killed anyone or broken up any families.

People are the the problem, they should be held responsible for their actions and not their possessions.

Hi Wally. I have 59.0.2 as well so I went back and tried the link again and it worked this time. Don't ask why - IDK.
I used to have a poster years ago that had that "paranoid" line on it. That lady makes a great point about the numbers game the LLWs keep using against us.

Its s real problem. I had to make a "parts run" one morning last week. When i got to the highway, i had to wait on two strings of cars before i could pull out. Both strings of trsffic were being led by people who were staring at their phones.

But there use has in the wrong place like walking and driving. But when this occurs the public blames the person and not the phone or the car for the deaths. But if a gun is involved it's the guns fault first and foremost.

It really is a double standard. Lots of people will say you don't need a firearm. To that I say I lived about 40 years without a cell phone. So did most people in my generation.

My new motto. You give up your cell phone and I'll give up my gun. I'm pretty sure I won't get any takers.

Yeah thats true. But now leave the house with out your CP you almost feel naked. I'm on the road for work many times in rural areas. Try finding a public phone these days. CPs are great if they arent abused or you don't let them take over your life. So are guns. Just tools:thumbup:

She demonstrates reductio ad absurdum. We know that firearms are inanimate objects that are neither good nor evil in and of themselves. She applies the same absurd arguments used against firearms to cell phones, with excellent results.
