I know rifles and shotguns can be mailed to an FFL via the Post Office, and that handguns cannot. Can an AR lower that has previously been assembled as a rifle (and is therefore legally always a rifle) be mailed in a small box or does the compact size now make them consider it no longer a long gun? What about something like a bolt action rifle receiver?

I ask out of fear of it being confiscated en route because somebody thinks it’s not a long gun if not in a long configuration.

Actually I think I have already answered my own question. It looks like USPS considers anything small enough to be concealable as a handgun whether it actually is or not. That's fine, UPS is probably cheaper anyway.
