Maybe someone here from CT could help me out. The Father of a guy I work with here in OR, recently passed away and my buddy inherited some .22LR rifles from his Father's estate.

There is one .22LR single shot and one .22LR semi-auto. Rather than try to sell them back in CT, he wants to know if he could have them transferred from an FFL in CT to an FFL here and if so what would be involved.

I also don't know if he could have a relative just ship them to an FFL here in OR without having to involve an FFL in CT.

Thank you all in advance for your help.

He can ship them directly to an FFL in OR. He doesn't need to involve a CT FFL unless he wants to.

The way it normally works is the FFL will send a signed copy of their license (fax, mail, etc.) to the seller and the seller will then ship the firearm to the address on the license via UPS, USPS (long guns only), or other carrier.

Thanks Turtle! Does he need to include a copy of the FFL he is shipping to in the shipment itself?

No, but as courtesy a photocopy of the shippers Drivers License is good to include.

Make sure to include who it was shipped from in some fashion inside the box though. They'll want (need) to record where it came from.

I prefer to address the box to the buyer (in this case your friend) C/O the dealer's actual name (NOT Joe's Gun Shop or whatever) and then the shop address.

This gives the FFL the name of the recipient, it keeps any mention of gun or similar out of the address and has worked just fine for several shipments both via USPS and Fedex
