Shooting less due to high gas prices and ammo cost?

Reloading helps to hedge against inflation, it helps alot, but the prices of components have increased along with finished goods.

Also, stockpiling strategies employed when prices were low is paying off now that prices have increased.

Rimfire's been the answer for many! Unfortunately many casual shooters and newbies are forced to find other pursuits with this upside down economy. It's not good for perpetuating guns and related activities.

Example:Win.Dynapoint in 2003 approx $10.00 500 ct bulk pak
Same ammo today if you can find it $29.00 @ most outlets:eek:
Fed Bulk 550 ct 2006 $8.96 today 11.97 and an increase is currently pending:eek:
Nosler 55BT's in 2005 $10.00-$11.00 now 17.00-18.00:eek:
Plus shipping is now approx 30-35% more.
It's this SILENT TAX that does the damage and decreases our purchasing power!
Most of this erosion compliments of a devalued dollar as a result of the huge debtArama since 2003 which has come home to roost!
"We won't screw with your guns just your ability to pay for 'em!":fire:

I've been shooting more. For one thing, I've been teaching my five year old to shoot a .22; I've also been teaching my olderdaughter to shoot centerfire. I've been teaching myself to shoot a 12 gauge, which I historically have not been very handy with.

We have our own range, pond, and woods and reload some calibers, especially more expensive ones like .458 and .45-70 and .460; but none of my family afaik has been reloading .223 , 9mm or 12 gauge; we've been saving up the spent cases and there's quite a lot of them now. Nobody reloads .22lr either.

I see what's going on with the economy right now as a reason to shoot (and hunt) more, if at all possible; it's good family activity with possible economic and defensive benefits. So I'd say it's taken a higher priority with the family as a whole than it had eight years ago.

The range I belong to is only 1 1/2 miles from my house and I can hear shooting at the range most days, and it's been mostly quiet there this year compared to last year. And when I go out to pick up brass some shooters leave behind,it seems most of them are taking theirs with them also,-----bummer. Their probably reloading now like I'm doing also.:)

Cut back a whole bunch, the range I belong to is 30 mi. away. Last number of years went 2-3 times a week, this year twice a month. I reload and cast my own so cost of ammo is of no consequence except for .22's. Cost of match ammo has gone thru the roof. Wait till winter when we're trying to heat our homes. Area where I'm at has had layoff every week and news yesterday another major mfg. has shut their door till----who knows. Not good in No. In.
