Shooting on patriotic holidays

You know national holidays - Independence day, Veterans day, Memorial day. They seem like such a natural time to just plink around, whether as a recreational event, or just to exercise the rights that we have.

Do you have any personal rules on guns you shoot on those days, for example, "No communist bloc weapons?" Or do you have a certain gun you like to bring out and shoot to celebrate or observe these days?
 
yep i sure do, its a 62 caliber flintlock fowler patterned after that style in the 1750's. made in america by americans for an american. i also have my 13 star betsy ross flag flying from my pole on that day.
 
We have an annual shoot out and cook out on Labor Day. No restrictions on guns, just be safe and have fun. No beers until the guns are put away.
We start out with clays, then move into a less structured free for all with pistol and rifle target shooting.

We allow the kids to get their time on the firing line as well.
 
Yes!

My all time favorite holiday is Independents Day and I always try to shoot in the morning and BBQ that afternoon/evening.

Some years I don't get to shoot and BBQ but I try to do at least one, or the other.
One year things just weren't working out for our household and my wife asked if we really needed to do anything for the 4th and I told her "I don't care if all we do is grill a package of hot dogs. We are doing something to celebrate our nations birthday!" The 4th O July is more important to me than Christmas...

If i am off work sure i like to shoot pretty much anything goes following the four rules.
 
Nope. The ranges that are open are incredibly busy. Besides, why wait for a holiday? Sick days are wasted on the sick. :barf: :evil:
 
Christmas may be about the only holiday that i don't shoot only because i am too busy watching the kids open presents and helping getting the Christmas feast prepared.

But when you are retired, every day is a holiday.:)
 
I usually bring out the Finn Mosins in November after the first big snow fall to commemorate the start of the Winter War. I need to get one of these Soumi semis to add to the mix this year. Since my main range is closed for December it's also sort of my send-off to the shooting season that year.

When I lived out in the bush we would shoot down dead frozen trees for New Years. Lots of fun! And it's not like you can use a chainsaw on the frozen snags at 40 below zero anyway. Or heck even START a chainsaw. AK's and Mosins work fine, though. You just have to be real aware of trajectory and backstops.

I will shoot on any National Holiday and on religious holidays that don't fall on Sunday.

Jimmyraythomason, we are both from the heart of dixie and can agree on this. I just thought that was cool.

Back to the question, I believe in celebrating with shooting on any of these holidays (except Sundays as said above) no restrictions on type or country of origin. Something that creates excess smoke gets you extra points.
 
Since its asmoothbore you would think it is a short range deal but it isnt. I can hit a steel life size yote target at 100 yards all day. They a blast when you use a buck n ball load, 27 cal. pellets on top of a 62 caliber ball, the ultimate in stopping power lol.
Its little brother is the same thing but it has a 24 inch bbl instead of 42 and has sights front and rear. I put it together from parts and the other is custom made. If you have never shot a flinter you are missing the ultimate thrill atleast in my eyes.
 
I usually try to do so. I also try to use something 'appropriate' like my '03 Springfield, M1 Garand and a 1911. Gives me a warm feeling!
 
No special plans on the holidays as far as shooting. I just try to shoot any time that I have a spare hour or two to enjoy. Now if family or friends show up THEN we shoot some extra and that classifies as a holiday in and of itself in my book.:D
