I am going out on a first date with a girl tonight, and she has never been shooting. I wanted to take her to an indoor range, but none are open late! They all close around 6:00 or so. What gives?!?!!? Can't a squirrel get a break!

I mentioned it to her, and she did not seem shocked or say anything negative. I told her we will go to the range, and to bring a pair of glasses. She said "Great! I have never been before."

I called every range within reason...no such luck :( All closed at this hour.

Wolf,

There are a few ranges open on Sunday afternoons. Only problem is that I work Sunday afternoons as the youth minister at my church and she is gone on Sundays, also at church. Such is life.

Squirrelman , try to make a date earlier in the day on next SAturday , start out with lunch then go shooting . worked for me , I was engaged to her a few weeks later , but thats another story ( no no little coonans )

Squirrel, what ever happens, good luck. (actually a little drive out to a quiet place in the country might work to your advantage. Know anybody with a farm/acreage?)

hehe, thanks for all the suggestions guys.

I originally tried to go out early this morning, but she had to work and then she had plans with her church that were out of the norm for a Saturday. I told her tonight that we need to get together during the daylight hours to do this. She was ready for it. We are going out again on Monday, but Monday night!

She is free on Wednesdays, so that may be the ticket. She is a manager at her job, is in school to become a paramedic and also works as an EMT on ride-alongs with paramedics. Busy busy busy.

Heh heh heh. Good luck Squirrel. I took my wife to the range on our first date. :D

Now once I get her out of school, I can go back!;)

Paramedic and a church girl huh? She sounds like a winner!

Skunk,

I am a youth minister, yet no one would never know unless I told them. Going to church does not imply anything. What is wrong with being a paramedic?

She was very fun and is willing to do some crazy stuff.

This is the first girl I have dated in a LOOOOONG time that is actually reliable. I cannot tell you how many unreliable girls I have dated. I have gotten all of them interested, but not all of them to the range. All I wanted was a girl that is reliable, smiles, and likes firearms. Is that too much to ask for? So far it has proved difficult for me to find. So far so good with this one.

oh you don't have to tell me about unreliable / flaky women

I once dated a Wiccan priestess who was a nurse in Dr. George Tiller's office (one of this nations premier abortion doctors) long story ... y'all don't really want to know ... at least she was interesting in bed and made an awesome cup of coffee

a good woman is hard to find ... one who tolerates, let alone appreciates your interest in firearms is indeed one to take seriously.

again, I complain about my wife a bit but she's not an anti ... just cheap :p (and shooting ain't exactly a cheap hobby)

Shooting on the first date...

Interesting question, and there are certain rules that must be observed:

1. Do not expect to shoot on the first date. Respect your date's wishes. Many women are not comfortable with your shooting until the third date, or even longer.

2. If you are anticipating wet conditions, the use of a condom over the end of your barrel is advised, and may prevent damage.

3. Lubrication is critical. Do not attempt to go shooting without adequate lubrication.

4. Depending on what caliber you will be shooting, hearing protection may be necessary. Loud noises at close quarters may damage your hearing.

5. Remember the rules of safety. Accidental discharges are not only embarrassing but also dangerous.

6. Be flexible. If your date is not comfortable with your first range choice, you may wish to consider an alternate site.

7. When you have completed your session, be sure to thoroughly clean all parts.

8. Don't be discouraged if you don't light up the bullseye the first time. Practice is everything.

"uh... did steely dan's post have any sexual connections?"

:)

Have fun SN. Reliable, huh? That's unusual, but good for a shooting bud. What'cha gonna shoot on a 1st date? Hummm, I'm thinking a nice richly blued single action Colt, with ivory grips. No! An oiled walnut and case hardened .44-40 Navy Arms 73. No! Hard cromed Sig 226 with zeebrawood grips. No! This is hard.

zunfoldge I have got you beat , maybe we should get together and write a book ( would it be a comedy??) as for lube Hmmm never thought of KY.....(note to self .. water souluable easy to clean..) most important question squirell does she clean ?? the guns that is.. :D

Mastrogiacomo,

MY answer would be that you only go to the range for an hour or so.

STEELYDAN's answer will be "Who uses hearing protection? Maybe the neighbors..."
