Hey Texans,

Every public range I 've visted in this area seems to restrict FMJ from their rifle ranges. What am missing? I'm tired of loading/finding soft points, Where do you shoot your military style rifles?

tiberius, it's been a few years, but I use to shoot indoors at DFW Gun Rrange & Training center.
1607 W. Mockingbird LN. Near Stemmons
214 630 4866

As I recall they rent pistol, rifle, military and full auto and have on occasion, (if memory serves) have fired a .50 BMG at their indoor range.

I did not see it, but the scuttlebutt was that they did once or twice, give em a call.

Here are a few outdoor ranges I have shot on in the DFW area that allow FMJ:

Collin County Gun Range
http://www.ccgunrange.com/

TDSA Dallas
http://www.tdsa.net/

(This one requires you to be a member and to be certified before you can use the rifle range)

Tac Pro Shooting Center
http://www.tacproshootingcenter.com/

(This one is only in the DFW area in a very loose sense of the word since it is about 2 hours from DFW near Stephenville; but has a 1,000yd range)

L.T. Dillon Range
http://www.wacoforsale.com/ltd/

(As noted, this range is in Waco and is for sale - so is in a kind of transition state)

Also Gibson's range on Lawson Road in Mesquite. The Tx-FNFAL group meets there on occasion.

TargetMasters in Garland allows FMJ.

How can I find out about the FnFal club? I live less than 5 miles from Gibsons.

Monitor the Meetings and Events board at the FAL files, there is usually some notice before the scheduled shoots (and BBQs). There's also a Yahoogroup mailing list, seach for 'tx-fnfal'.

Thanks guys, FYI I live in the mid-cities, but don't mind driving a bit to go to a nice range. I'll check some of these out.

By nice, I don't mean fancy. Just low key with appropriate ranges and no bells and whistles. What I would really like to find is a gun club within 100 miles that's not too fancy but has outdoor ranges for pistols and rifles, that you bring own targets and has a general low key feel. My brother has a club in Pensacola, Florida that meets this description and I'd love to find a duplicate here.

I usually shoot at Alpine or Quail Creek. I primarily shoot pistols, but the rifles that I do like to shoot the most are my M1 Garand and M1-A and FMJ is the order of the day for these.

L.T. Dillon Range

They were bought by T.I.G.E.R. Valley out of Dallas. They do some matches & training there, but no public range.

If you're heading a little farther south, you can go to the Leon Co. Gun Club. For more information, contact Archie at Buffalo Sporting Goods (903-322-4298)

...and he has a heck of a gun store, too. But be careful, he'll do his darndest to sell you something... ;)

Slight Thread Hijack. Could someone point me to info on what all I need to read up on and do to get a CCW in Texas? Since I'm gonna be moving there soon.

Prolly moving to Ft. Hood. I grew up out in Crawford but never was interested in guns till I actually started shooting in the Military. Thanks for pointing me to the site.
