Shooting Shoulder Pad?

Hey, I've never used any sort of "pad" or special device for recoil, because I was always too cheap (and too 'tough') to buy one. I have a lot of big milsurp rifles with steel butt plates, and they can do a marvelous job tenderizing a shoulder. Especially the Garand, it's buttplate is checkered just like a meat tenderizer. Still... the butt is the better end to be on.

At any rate, does anyone here strap on a pad or wear a padded shirt to better cope with recoil?

Would anyone be willing to appraise what they're using function/value?

Note, I'm positively unwilling to put a rubber slip-on recoil pad on a Garand or Enfield, etc. The thought strikes me as sacrilege.

FWIW, I live in Arizona, so it's a tad hot here in the summer, and that heat plays a role in shooting wardrobe selection.

PAST, when shooting things like Buffalo Bore loads in my 1895 GS, from the bench. Standing no big deal as you will roll with the recoil whether you want to or not.

A recoil pad in a shotgun shooting vest is usually enough.

When laddering 20+ high power rifle loads testing for accuracy, I will put temporary rubber boot on the stock with the gun on a bench rest.

I use a PAST Mag Recoil Pad Shield for most of my larger caliber centerfire rifle and shotgun shooting. I once ran 250 rounds through my Mossberg Model 9200 shotgun in one afternoon while wearing the PAST Shield. Never felt a thing in terms of recoil and my shoulder was fine the next day.

I use a padded shooting coat to shoot NRA High Power but it's not to protect myself from the recoil of my 11 lb AR15 in 5.56mm. It's to insulate the gun from my heartbeat. Works great in that regard when shooting bigger guns off sandbags as well.

Past mag plus shield , I can pattern buckshot all day wearing this .
