HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!....Quantity 6, 1861 Navy's left left at Midway...... and counting!:neener::thumbup:

Are there any ASM fans out there? Saw a few on gunbroker.com. The prices there seem a little steep to me:(. Bought my first C&B revolver there back in November but not since. I know very little about ASM brand. Any thoughts? thanks

ASM kinda has a checkered reputation, I own 5. 4 are decent quality, one is not. All are accurate shooters. The poor quality one is one of those ridiculous brass framed 1858 Bison models. The frame and internal parts are really rough, plus I had to shim the hammer on one side to get it centered enough to pop caps. Anyway ASM is worth looking at if the price isn't over the top.

ASM revolvers are quite often a mess to work on!! The only ones worse are the Colt 2nd gens !!! They are all over the place!! I'm sure that's why most folks won't work on them! Today's Uberti and Pietta offerings are much better suited for tuning / aftermarket cylinder applications.

Hey Mike:thumbup:. Thanks for the insight. I was told by someone that early 60's Uberti's were not that good? I have an early Uberti 1960's 1851 model. That's why I ask. Thank you. Tim

Thank you Jackrabbit1957. Appreciate your insight and response. The fact that you have 5 ASM's sounds like they are certainly worth looking into. Tim

Zulch, I own several ASMs and have no complaints. In many ways (dimensional, details, etc) they are more HC than some of the newer repros, including not putting billboards all over the barrel.

Glad to know that Cappy. The one thing that I was not liking about Pietta was the stamped barrel Black Powder only:barf:. I bought a Pietta anyway and I really love it. The early 1960s Uberti I have does not have that on the barrel but does have a Navy Arms Gregorelli/uberti stamp on the bottom side of the barrel which at least is concealed? What do i know though..I'm still justa learnin. HAHAHAHAHAHA.. a clean barrel is more appealing to me I guess. than say a a highway cluttered with adverts signs. .:neener:

I got into bp in the early 1990s with ASM revolvers. I noticed they were made of very soft metal and crudely finished. My first .... or very early one was a Colt 1860. It was pretty crude. It worked ok but the tooling marks along the loading lever .... :uhoh: ....
Later I got into Pietta which even then was better, and Uberti which was nicer.

I do recall visiting a gun store and looking at a Colt 1861 Navy that was very nice. It even had the pins on the cylinder heel between the nipples (ASM models I had lacked these) and I thought it was a Uberti but it was ASM!!!! I figured ASM early ones were better and they began cutting corners late in the life of the company.

I have a ASM pocket that is giving me fits. Was thinking of sending it to you, but I like you to much to do that.
