Same here. We have a rural king which is good, but it would be nice to have some competition from fleet farm, scheels, or any of the other big names in the outdoors industry.I've always wished someone would franchise FleetFarm down here. Lakeville FF was my favorite farm store growing up.
Good looking shooter. Those corncob forends are a classic look that’s just about gone.I am not normally such a big spender on ammo, but today I thought, what the heck, you only live once and can't take it with you. Don't tell the neighbors, they'll think I won the lottery.

I liked that store too. Now I live closer to the new one in Monticello. But for guns and hunting I like Runnings Fleet Farm in Monticello better. I bought a shotgun there a couple days ago.I've always wished someone would franchise FleetFarm down here. Lakeville FF was my favorite farm store growing up.

Incredibly, Target used to sell ammunition. When they stopped, they clearanced their 5-rd. boxes of Winchester shotgun slugs for $.50 a box. I bought everything they had. I still have most of them. A few shots (and the associated recoil) and I’m good for another five years.
Those are some old slugs. Love the Deerslayer. I have 2 a 12 and a 20 both rat tails like yours. Great deer guns and not bad on small game.I am not normally such a big spender on ammo, but today I thought, what the heck, you only live once and can't take it with you. Does it slam fire? The glorious POS you see before you is the crappiest Ithaca model 37 featherweight I think I have ever seen. I was told someone brought in about 100 guns from their father who was a gunsmith and they bought everything that looked like it was functional. I don't know what kind of gunsmith he was but nearly everything they got from him was complete crap and had hardware store screw eyes threaded into the stock for some reason. I had been prowling gun broker trying to find an original Ithaca Riot Gun, and when I walked in and saw the $100 price tag on this I decided it was close enough. The end of the barrel had a big dent in it and there was no butt pad. This one and a few others they had look like they had sat in about an inch of water for awhile. I cut the barrel off at 20" and soldered a dovetail front sight base on the end of the barrel. And filed down a front sight blade until it was roughly zeroed for foster slugs at 50 yards. I zeroed the windage by melting the solder and moving it right and left till it was about right.
Its manageable with the slip on recoil pad and milder slugs, but with no pad and hot slugs or buckshot its the most hilariously abusive thing I've ever shot. I used to bet people that if you can shoot a 1-1/4 ounce magnum slug and keep your hand on the forend I'll give you $20. If you are not prepared for it with heavy loads the slide comes out of your hand and ejects the shell on its own. I have checked and the locking surfaces and all internal parts are in good condition and it is going fully in battery, I've been told that's just the way 37's are.![]()
They gotta be from the 70’s.I'd love to see prices like that on slugs!

I don’t believe the 37 was ever made in anything other than steel frame.I used to stock up on Remington Nitro Sporting 12 ga sleeves of 100 rds for $27.99 from Walmart. We can only wish these days.
And I agree... love the old 37. Rode hard and put up wet, but still effective at what it was made for. My buddies dad has an old steel framed 37. I completely disassembled it, hot soapy water, assembled and relubed it. One of the slickest actions I've ever felt, I can see the slide coming back on firing.
I get the feeling that their top C-suite team really wants to be a Walmart Bass Pro and drop the farm stuff. I stopped getting chicken feed from them about 3-years ago because it seemed to always have gone bad, usually from being left sitting in a puddle or something. They barely deserve their name anymore. Every year they have less and less farm and fleet and more and more Columbia sweaters and small appliances. They have expanded their sporting goods quite a bit fortunately.
I have never seen one with an aluminum reciever. Must have been after they were moved out of Ithica NY. If you have one could you tell me year of manufacture?Ithaca 37‘s were made with steel and aluminum receivers.
