This is the first time I shot my Taurus PT1911 since I got it used. I had a bunch of mags from different manufacturers. First mag had two failure to feeds and I was like, Oh great. But the other mags did not have this problem. Then I realized the only mags that made the gun hiccup were the 7-rd Mec-Gars. They also did not allow the slide to lock open on last round. The Taurus factory mags, and the Chip McCormick 8-rd mags worked fine.

I found the Taurus reliable with mags it likes, and it made one ragged hole at 7 yds.

    I am not displeased. :)

I've never been a fan of novak/act/mecgar mags for a 1911. I've had several that let to failures in more than one gun. Since the magazines are the most common source of issues on a 1911, don't skimp on these.

You must be kidding us, right? All I have ever read is that Taurus 1911's are nothing but cheap junk. You only shot two magazines out of it before it broke, right, and now you are trying to make up a story, right?

And as for that accuracy report, you must be pushing the bullets through the hole.

Yes, no way that a Taurus can come up with a good gun... :banghead:

... although mine is a fairly accurate gun, and still functions fine.

I guess we were the only two lucky ones, eh?

    ;)

The Doc is out now.

I have used the Taurus factory and Wilson Combat mags was w/ perfect results. I was so impressed w/ the blue one, I had to get a stainless version too! :)

You aren't the first to report that the Mecgars give the gun trouble. I've seen that reported numerous times. I'm eventually going to sneak up on a used PT1911 and that is good info to file away. Thanks.

I've had my PT1911 for less than a year and have carried it so much the finish is begining to show some wear. But, I'm not one to cry about that, I always considered a good worn gun has a little character. I see my buddies pay big money to buy factory "aged" cowboy guns, but sweat over the least bit of wear on their carry piece.

I've also never had a hiccup or failure to feed. Althought I do appreciate the warning on some bad magazines. I've been trying to decide what brand to get for some extras. Don't need high dollar, just dependable.

I've only put 450 rounds through my stainles PT1911, but nary a hitch thus far. I got four 8rnd ACT mags from www.topgunsupply.com for under $20/apiece and they all feed 230gr FMJ just fine (and other then being nickel, they are darn near identical to the factory mags anyway).

If'n ya want a magazine that will work in pretty much anybody's 1911, get a Metalform 7rd. mag (the one with the round top metal follower)from Brownell's or Denny's Shooter's Supply. I trust these magazines more than any other, and I've just about used every kind out there.
