I went with the g/f out to her parents house in Minnesota this weekend and her Dad took us to a private range. I got to shoot my SKS, M44 and Mossberg 835 for the first time since I bought them.
SKS- I love this gun!! Very little recoil and pretty accurate. I was shooting Silver Bear ammo. I was a little worried that I maybe didn't clean the cosmoline out of it well enough but there were no slam fires and no cosmoline leaking from it. This gun us a total joy to shooting. I'm thinking about picking up a second and throwing a scope on it!
M44- Wow! You guys weren't kidding when you said this thing kicked. And the flame out the end of the barrel is insane!!! I'm having some trouble with accuracy though. Even at 50 yards I was having trouble constantly hitting the target. I'm not sure it's it's the gun or the ammo. The ammo, by the way, was Hungarian Lightball from 1978.
Mossberg 835- I know this isn't the shotgun forum, but I thought I'd post about it anyway. I don't think I could have picked a better first shotgun. I find it to be very comfortable and a lot of fun to shoot. Once I got into the swing of it, I was able to knock down clay pigeons very consistently. I even bought some 3 1/2" shells just to see what they are like. Big mistake... I fired three of them and they did a number on my shoulder. I can't believe how much those things kicked!
All in all, it was a fun couple of days.
