Shot placement and laser sights

If there's one thing consistently agreed upon in postings here, it's that shot-placement is the single most important factor in defensive shooting - over caliber, etc. If that is the case the argument can be made that a little handgun, say a Kel-tec 380 for instance, with laser sites is the way to go in defensive handguns (assuming you've learned to hit where you want to hit). Because such a pistol is small, lightweight, and easily concealed.

Who cares to chime in on this?

if you are crack shot under duress, or chuck norris, take a 22 lr and shoot for the eyes, but how often do things go according to plan? I consider the larger calibers to be like insurance to help with those shots/ hits that are not quite where you want them to be. Hopefully the increased trauma would help dissuade further aggression, even in less than optimal hits.

if you were good with the 380 and were comfortable with it then by all means that is an adequate weapon, especially in a situation where a larger framed weapon is out of the question; you have to use what you are able to use well.

i'm not with ya, on this one.

that's like saying: not getting shot is much more important than what type of armor you wear (true enough), so i should trade my vest for a spandex suit so i can move faster when the bullets are coming.


not that i wouldn't pack a .380, i just wouldn't have any illusions about it being equal to a larger caliber becuase the truth is, no matter how accurate any of us are, there's a good chance that bullet isn't going to end up EXACTLY where you intended.
