A shotgun is not a "shotty"
It's not a "mossy", "winnie", "remmy". It's Mossberg, Winchester, and Remington.
It's gauge, not guage.
A shotgun used for wingshooting is pointed, not aimed, if you are using it like a rifle at a static target, by all means aim it.

Sorry just a few pet peeves of mine, feeling a bit curmudgeonly today, feel free to add to the list, I'm sure I missed quite a few.

I don't disagree with you. But it isn't worth getting my blood pressure up to worry about it anymore. When I see terminology used incorrectly, I may try to educate the offender if I can do it tactfully and hopefully without offending someone. But it isn't worth getting upset about.

While I don't criticize in my comments, I just don't participate in the discussions when I hear people use terms like shotty or shottie. Life is full of too many acronyms, pet words, and such. Learn the proper terms and you will receive the most courteous responses. It doesn't require any more energy to call things by the right names. Cuteness is not always best. Works that way in a lot of life circumstances. Have a nice day!

I agree but I mostly grin and grit my teeth and hope the offenders figure out the proper terminology to use from those that do use the proper terminology.

Of course, you could say they are saving energy by typing just a few fewer letters and that saves the planet and reduces climate change.

Don't even get me started. I shoot Trap, and the occasion round of Sporting Clays, and will be shooting 5 stand henceforth. (tried it about a month ago, and like softball, I'm not good at it, but gosh, it's fun!) I shoot leagues at a non-ATA club, and Jackpots at some ATA clubs. I also was a 4-H and high school Trap coach, so safety is always on my mind. I had to remind the kids of proper safety and etiquette once in a while. That's to be expected. When a 60ish year old man is a walking disaster in the making, reminding them of of proper safety/etiquette normally garners you an earful. "I been shootin' since I was knee high to a grasshopper", etc. Yes, I know the SCTP rules are more stringent than traditional trap rules & etiquette, and I know not to apply them to the casual Trapshooter, but dangerous practices like loading a pump with 5 rounds at a station change, or at a station change no matter what order they shoot in should be called out (I hate that phrase, because it is misused in business culture, but is applied correctly in this case.) and dealt with. It's almost always at non-ATA clubs I see such. They tend to be dealt with quickly at ATA clubs. I refuse to work our club's public deer sight -in, simply because we end up sending several unsafe shooters packing every Saturday we hold them. I dealt enough with knuckleheaded knuckledraggers in the Army while running ranges. Sgt.s saying "Don't tell ME what to do, Specialist, I been in this man's Army a lot longer than you!" , as he has his M16 unknown to him pointed at my groin, etc. The officers were much easier to work with, I had to teach several how to fire an M1911 accurately enough to pass qualification, never got back talk from any of them, and they all passed after I helped them.
This is also why I prefer teaching girls and women over men. (not implying the officers were girlish, just smarter than most enlisted.) Females listen, and put into action what they learn. The high school girls usually surpass most of the boys quickly.

Whenever I hear that word, I cringe. Then my mind is filled with images of mall ninjas and tacti-cool gunshop commandos brandishing tricked out Mossberg 500's while wearing tactical vests carrying more patches than ammo. A shotgun is the epitome of fine sporting arms, and should be treated as such.

Well said, Brother. My sentiments exactly.

If you feel that way, great. BUT I don't and I will say why. I am almost 7 feet tall and nothing fits me like it may fit you. When I shoot a field grade shotgun, it shoots like a trap gun.
Now I have read, "pointing" is pointing by definition, because a shotgun does not have a rear sight. But I have also read that the shooter's eye is a rear sight, something like a peep site. I am near celebrating my 31 anniversary of my 39th birthday, just like Jack Benny, and I have found two beads on a shotgun are better than one. I also believe strongly in allowing a little of the rib to show between the beads for proper fit and to hold my gun handling elbow at 90 degrees before shooting. I am also a right handed shooter and am left eye dominant, so I close my left eye when calling pull. Of yeah, some will argue to squeeze or push the trigger. And worst of all I use sun glasses over my regular eye glasses which is suppose to cause a distortion when shooting.
By all modern standards, "I shouldn't be able to hit a bull in the arse" or "hit the broad side of a barn". However, the best scores I ever had were in the last few years being just shy of a 94 average during summer league.

Agree 100%.

Nor is a Leupold a "Loopy" or a 9MM a 9 Milly, or a 45 Colt a "45 'long' Colt".

Gun stuff aggravates me at times.
