Im new to the shotgun world but into handguns for years. Im looking for a quality medium priced 12 ga (pump?) in stainless/with black synethic stock (maybe possible wood??) Im looking to spend under $500. Whats everyone recommend? m looking to skeet shoot and maybe a lil hunting. But mostly just to have fun with it??

Sounds like you are looking for the Remington 870 Marine Magnum.

Unfortunately, I don't know that they make the longer stainless barrels that would be better suited for hunting/clay games.
You living in Philly, I'm assuming the stainless is simply aesthetics, no? It is a sexy SG.;)
Personally, I'd suggest one of the less expensive, proven, blued pump guns that get all the rave reviews here on this forum. Start with a 26" or 28" barrel. This will both save you some money and allow you to shoot skeet/trap at some of the ranges that have regulations on barrel lengths in order to keep noise to a minimum. The range I shoot at is 26" min.
Starting with a Rem 870 Express Magnum should only set you back about $225 new. The left over $275 goes a long way in the ammo/rounds of skeet department.
If you were to pick up something like the Marine Magnum there is nothing to stop you from putting on a longer blued barrel in order to take advantage of the length. It might not look as pretty but it will make it a bit more versatile.
Hope that helps,
cs

Edit: BTW, is this really necessary

. Some of us have to drive minivans and Saturns:banghead:
:D :p :D Not to worry. My 99 Safari has a V8 with its name on it in the not so distant future. The Mrs. just don't know it yet.

I would also recommend a 870 Marine Magnum but it doesn't come with longer stainless or coated barrels I've ever seen.

You could get a standard 870 Wingmaster with a synthetic stock, and get it coated with DuraCoat (the whole gun). If the gun rusts after that, it'd be a miracle.

Thanks guys. As you can see from my handguns and car engine.. I LOVE the look of stainless steel:) I seen the rem marine at a gun show today and loved it:) Keep the opinions comming!

Frank

Duracoat can come in black, camo etc I imagine they could do brushed satin stainless-look too. And it's more rust resistant than any stainless.

As everyone said already, a 870 MM, or Winchester makes one of their Defender models (18" Model 1300) with stainless finish and composite stocks. I own a 28" 1300 and it has worked flawlessly over 300 rds. Pick whichever fits you best - good luck!

Another option is to pick up a used 870 and send it off for a hard chrome finish. Should run you no more than 400 or so (total) and arguably a tougher finish than the MM. :)

what about a mossberg 500. im pretty familiar with the 870 but the 500 has some features i like better, like a biger ejection port for combat loading. i don't think it would be as good as the 870 as far as skeet shooting but it's one of the best all purpose shotguns that i have seen.

The 870 Marine Magnum is not stainless, but electroless nickel plated. 18" cylinder choke barrel. I suggest buy an 870 Express, or similar, with preferred barrel length and screw-in chokes, and then have it hard industrial chromed.
