Shotgun stock medallion?

    As much as I like C&R shotguns, I’ve always wondered what the significance of the stock medallion is, or the true purpose of it?

    Do you know?

    It's to have your monogram or family crest engraved on.

    That’s what I figured but I never see any with it on there. So I thought there may be another meaning

    It's for placement of owner initials. Sometimes people will put one there to cover unsightly swivel screw hole.

    to identify the guns owner, turned in to fashion and tradition thing.
