Currently 5 states have the process (if we include Arkansas where some legal wrangling has occurred). 43 states are now Shall Issue. One step away.

Of course, states like Hawaii,Maryland, New Jersey and New York may fight it to the last breath. Disregarding the politics ,what are your personal thoughts, THR?

We'll use the proven KISS Formula as with the mandatory training question.
Inspired by a post today by USAF Vet. Thank you. :)

Honestly, having a permit process in place seems like a courtesy to law enforcement.

The bad guys are carrying anyway. But the good guys have to go through the "Process".

Where I am from it is a fairly expensive process, too. We are a Shall Issue County but it does cost closet to $300 to get one. I know that some places it is even more expensive.

I figure if you are doing something illegal with your "constitutional carry" you go to jail (or are at least prosecuted). If you simply have it with you, that shouldn't be so much a problem. Just like any other tool (ie hammer).
If you have it in your pocket, that's no big deal to anyone. Hit someone with it and that's another matter.

Yes. Before our constitutional carry was signed into law a few years ago, i could have been cited for unpermitted concealed carry when i was pulled over by a highway patrolman.
I shoot at the local public range quite often and when i do, i load my rifles in the back seat of my crew cab and cover them with a blanket. Most are cased, but the day i got stopped, i had a shotgun that wasn't and you could see the butt sticking out of the cover. The patrolman told me that technically he could consider that unpermitted concealed carry, he didn't cite me, but said that the way the arizona law was written at the time he could.

I'm 18. In KY I'm allowed to open carry a handgun, but I can't conceal carry until I'm 21 (because somehow when I turn 21 I become responsible enough to leave my shirt untucked). And even then I don't like the idea of having to get a license* to carry a firearm. I don't know, but it looks like I'll be OC'ing unless KY ever passes a "no license required" law.

*Black's Law Dictionary 6th ed. defines "License" as: The permission...to do an act, which without permission would be illegal. In other words, it's illegal to marry someone, it's illegal to build a building on your property (which you don't really own if you pay a property tax), and it's illegal to conceal carry guns, even though it's a right that "shall not be infringed".

Anyhow, I'm all for Constitutional Carry. Sorry, kind of ran off on a few tangents.

Like the 22% who want mandatory training, all will not be in the choir, Wally. Chill and wait. And choirs can be boring. ;) It's not boring here.

I voted yes. I think if you want a permit you should still be able to get one to streamline the background check from an ffl (in Washington, there is no waiting period for a handgun if you have a permit) but as far as needing a license to actually carry, I think for the most part, anything horrible you could do with a concealed firearm, or a firearm in a vehicle, is already illegal ;)

    Keep calm and carry constitutionally

    NO.

This is a States rights issue. States have the authority to enter into agreements with other States as is already being done.

The O.P. does not say how universal Constitutional Carry will be accomplished. If this is too be mandated by passing Federal Law I vote no. I am strongly oppose to the Federal Government expanding it's authority.

While I kinda agree with some of your reasoning BSA1, the Constitution covers all 50 states (or is supposed to at least). I am as anti big central government as it gets, but in this particular situation, I go with the Constitution. Now, on other things like education, etc, I'm right beside you.

This. If the feds get involved it'll be poorly done, cost way more than it should will likely be mishandled in some way detrimental to gun owners. My state is "must issue" and a license allows for open carry. I'd just as soon keep things that way if the feds start to mess in this in any way. The best thing the feds can do is to just leave it alone and stay out of the way.

I say yes but in a different way, the states should have NO ROLE in the bearing of arms . Thats right I said it this is a national issue not a state , we are losing ground as a country and the minute we forget everyone else we just lost a bit of ourselves.

Many would argue for the tenth amendment but the tenth amendment specifically states "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people"
Obviously the second amendment is part of the constitution so if we are to seriously follow that document word for word it becomes a federal or national issue, there should be national reciprocity not by states partnering together but because this is one nation that does(or should at least) recognize the right to carry arms( not limited to firearms also) in defense of himself but also the state which in the constituion refers to the nation at large not the individual regions .

I know someone will try to argue this but if we follow the word of the founding fathers this is the way it should be. Yes some of them wanted state power all the way but the last time we tried that it didnt work (articles of confederation anyone?) so in the eternal words UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL.

    Undecided...

I voted undecided. I think there would be some legal & technical issues to be worked out, but in theory open carry & gun carry nationwide(and in US terrorities) would be great for adults, active-reserve military(under 21).

The Feds have ignored the Constitution and infringed States rights on so many issues that this dog won't hunt on this one!

Then the people have the right to alter or abolish said government and institute new government , but I doubt we as a people will do that , so under current conditions the states individually has no place in deciding carry for a NATIONAL issue like this.

I gave a quick thought about state's rights. But then I realized that we already have a federal law granting us Constitutional carry.

    THE CONSTITUTION!

I voted Yes. Each remaining state should individually emulate the procedures done by Alaska , Arizona,Vermont and Wyoming to arrive at CC.

Although at this time,WY requires a permit for non-residents for concealed carry that WY recognizes, that requirement hopefully will be eliminated in due course.

I think so. Since only the law-abiding bother to apply for permits, the permit process is simply another way of collecting a tax. I know better how to spend my money than the government does.
