Should i convert ?.

I believe the 44s from Uberti all have a 1:18" twist today and a .452 groove dia.

True, but it hasn't always been so. Those that decide they want a metallic cartridge conversion seldom know this, and so spend a considerable sum without checking the groove diameter and twist in the barrel on their particular revolver.

If one purchases a replica already made as a cartridge revolver they will be able to avoid the possible (but not certain) negative issues associated with converting a replica C&B model.

I have two Taylors conversion cylinders, both on Pietta 1860 Army's, and one Krist Konverter cylinder that I installed on a Uberti 1860 Army. All three work fine, and shoot just as well as when they were cap and ball. at first I loaded 45 Colt cases with the bullets seated deeper to fit in the shorter cylinders, then went to 45 Schofield cases, with a 220 grain soft cast bullet. All are timed correctly, without any work on my part, and they are a hoot to shoot:)

Thanks for all the replies fella's , I have been taking it all in .
It's been very informative , and as Old Fuff stated === "He of course can do whatever he choses."
He is absolutely right ,,
So i bought a Repo 1858 today, I have what I consider enough smokeless pressure tested revolvers and besides I like to shoot balls sometimes...
Y'all have a wonderful night and weekend.

Thanks Mike!! But I can't take any credit, I wish I could, the barrel was resting on sandbags. The Remington did all the work!!

I suggest buy the conversion for your 1860 and if you have any problems send it off to Mike for the 'gooning' treatment. He'll make it right.

Sandhills,
Glad your having fun! I wish I could get my six shooters to have perfect timing when they become 5 shooters (how much do ya charge?! ;))
