Show me Your Favorite Carbine

A loosely defined term. I was just reading this nice lady's article. What is a Carbine? How Is It Different From a Rifle? https://www.ammunitiontogo.com/lodge/what-is-a-carbine/

Seems almost anything short barreled and semiautomatic can be called a carbine. Them cowboys started it all. Lever guns? Or how about a jungle carbine?

I believe the first was the Spencer carbine.

Anyway, here are my favorite “carbines”.

Ruger PC Carbine


Winchester 94AE 30-30 carbine



I am not really sure if this is a carbine but it does have a 16” barrel.
Ruger SFAR .308 Winchester.

I like this Ruger American Ranch in 7.62x39 with a Nikon 3-9x50
It's light and handy....shoots good too.
I usually use a 5rd mag, but showing off in these pics with a 20rd.

An ancient Quik-Pic of my Favorite since I built it 20 years ago. I chopped & re-crowned (11°) the barrel and then opened the gas port, a little at a time, until I found the sweet spot.

A solid, accurate hard-hitting little rifle.

Besides 5 AR15 carbines, I have this 19" barreled 7600:

For about 65% of the hunting I do; woods still hunting, drives and stands, a carbine comes in a lot handier than a rifle due to both length and because I mount lower power scopes on them. The loss in MV is moot at those distances.

A couple of Winchesters



Top is a late 40’s flat band 1894 in 32 Special
Middle is a 1894 SRC 30-30 made in 1926 if memory serves.
Last is a model 71 348 carbine with a few slight alterations.

I'm not sure my 1895 I posted would qualify since it has a 24 inch barrel. Not sure about bolt guns either, I guess if they have a magazine. According to the article they are short barreled rifles.

My favorite is probably a toss up between my Martini-Henry-Enfield-Astra "Marteenie" in .44 Magnum ...



.. and my NEF SB2 Handi Rifle with a custom .38 Super barrel, aka the Nickel Super (Dick Nickel did the barrel for me.)
