Show off your long range rifle

LkWinnipesaukee, it's rather plain-vanilla, I'm afraid...

Especially compared to the US Optics, NightForce and other monster scopes seen in this thread. As a recently-retired (poor) USAF flyboy, I don't have anywhere near the kind of disposable income that some folks have here at THR.

My 700PSS seen in the picture wears a Sightron SII 4-16x42 MilDot on Leupold QRW rings and mounts. It gives the Leupold scopes on my other rifles a run for the money, I might add. ;)

No pictue

I use a Howa 1500 in .270 win with a Nikon 3-9 for long range hunting. I Load a 150 grain Speer Boattail with B.C. of .496 at around 2980 fps and 1900+/- ft lbs at 300 yards.

Now that I have a way to take a picture...

AR15-1.jpg

My pride and joy. Bushmaster lower, older Les Baer upper.
Scope is off to Springfield Armory for repair, hopefully it will be back soon.
It's one of those .223 calibrated 4-14X40 Gov't tacticals.
Got some 69gr handloads cooked up for it that I am dying to try.

M77 MKII Ruger in .308, Leupold 4.5-14 VXIII Tactical Mil Dot.
Shoots my handloads like a mo fo. Doesn't do well with factory stuff though.
Well at least not Federal Premium with 168gr.

The AICS stock is $780.00 and is only offered for the Remington long and short actions. The AICS mag system is one of the best designed and works very well.

Excuse me, but why would anyone think that 100 yards is long range? Doesn't anyone still shoot the Hi Power matches that go out to 5-600 yards or even the old PALMA matches that shoot at 1000 yards? THAT's shooting distance.

I always ALWAYS shot the PALMAs with a tuned M1A or M21 (yes a real one, that I tuned). Shot most of the time in the "any rifle iron sights" division.. with NM sights. Loved it, never shot less then 80% of score.

Now THATs shooting distance. Come on folks, I know there's some serious shooters out there!!

I feel completely sub-standard here....my "long range rifle" is more like a handgun compared to some of these blasters.

It also costs less then most of these scopes......

but for those that want to see some poor peoples rifles here it is.....

Cooper Phoenix chambered in 6.5x55mm Swede. It was bought as a hunting rifle but I can hit a man size target at 1000 yards with it. I love my Cooper and I love the Swede!

aaronrkelly, That H&R you posted... what caliber and what scope? Poor man's rifle? I see a very viable option. There's a big difference between cheap and inexpensive.

Anybody who thinks an H&R single shot won't do for distance hasn't considered the Buffalo Special .45-70 and Target .38-55 with apertures. If that Williams Guide rear sight ain't enough, get a Foolproof with target knobs. It may not go 1000yds, but it'll still get a good ways out there and how many of us are where we can see 400yds much less 800yds.

Grant48, Your Savage is actually on my "cool" list too.

mustanger98,

Thats a heavy barrel .223 - I bought it so me and the wife could pop ballons out to a couple hundred yards out in the field.....just for some "good time" shooting.

.223 is still cheap enough to shoot alot and the recoil shouldnt bother her, heck that rifle weighs damn near 9 lbs if I remember correctly.

Scope is a Barska I picked up on sale for $50ish. Its a 6-24x50AO.....admittedly the scope gets hazy at anything above 18ish but I know what happens when you buy cheap scopes. I bought more scope then I needed so losing clarity above 18x isnt an issue and the rest of the scope should hold up to .223 recoil.

Mine is not nearly as cool as what some of you guys are shooting, but it still works fine for me, as you can see.... This was on the north slope this summer. The rifle is a '54 Remington 760 pump in 30-06 wearing a new Leupold Vari-X I 3-9x40. We have a 300yrd range at my local club, and I can consistantly put down 4-6in groups at 200, which is about as far as I trust myself for hunting - I'm positive the rifle would be fine out to 400+ if I could actually shoot....

Hey, I hear you. I don't know about your wife, but my sister has shot rifles and shotguns both that kicked harder than I cared for... she didn't stick with it longer than she cared for, but she didn't let it bother her either. .223 out of a 9lb. rifle... what recoil? Rock on.

I see what you're saying about the scope too.

Balloons are one of my all time favorite interactive targets.

Good offhand practice with an AR15... try to go 30 for 30 at 100 yards, against 6" UN blue balloons.

This is my toy. Really I built it on a budget. $480 for the gun. $100 for the scope. $20 for the sling. $160 for the Choate sniper stock. $40 for the Harris style bipod. And a few bucks in paint and flip lens covers. Just wanted to show off my baby. I definitely reload, no way I can afford factory rounds. Hope you like it. I have shot out to about 900 yards with it so far. I am going to have to get a bigger scope with more adjustment to get out any further. I don't plan on killing anything but ground squirrels with it out that far. Kicks like a mule. Needs a break.

The arsenal has changed up quite a bit since I posted in this thread a year and a half ago, but I seem to be still stuck on the Swiss.

I often wish I hadn't sold the Mosin Nagant, but I honestly don't have many places to shoot it now.
