While most AR's never get a sling, was curious how those who do use them get the job done. Seems to be plenty of options available. How do you sling it and what do you use? Post some pics.

I prefer a sling when hunting, seem to switch back and forth from one point to a two point. Find them both to work well whether both hands need to be free or getting the rifle shouldered quickly. Also like the quick detach buttons for the swivels. Found the Magpul MS4 met all my requirements.

I use a key mod adapter on the bottom with a standard sling stud on it. I like this because I can put my bipod on it. The sling is a shock absorbing neoprene deal which I like because it stays on your shoulder.

I use a three point sling and carry the weapon under the right armpit. Both hands are free.

The 3 point can also be used in the same manner as a single or two point.
Bringing it into action is as easy and fast as drawing a sidearm.

Same setup for all of my rifles, only one sling shown in the photos that I have available.

Virtually never use it in the single point configuration. I find that having the sling attached closer together, rather than at the fore of the HG and aft of the stock, allows me more slack when I unsling the rifle to shoot.

Single point near the buffer tube and lower.

Convertable to 2 point with a Magpul RSA half way down my rail forearm. Similar to the op,except I'm still using hook things, not QD's yet.

Since mine is set up as a coyote hunting rifle I use a detachable sling just like on a bolt action rifle. I had to fabricate the attachment points for the rifle. They are as small as those on a bolt action rifle are.

I'm a firm believer in the adage "a rifle without a sling is like a pistol without a holster." That said, it's easy to overthink slings. There's nothing wrong with the issue M1 sling.

I believe a rifle needs a sling and I consider a rifle without a sling as non-usable. Sights and a sling were the first things I bought for my Colt 6960 CCU and I consider them both equally important to the safe and effective deployment of the rifle. A sling is normally not a carrying strap for me, but a retention device and shooting aid. For the M1s and my Remington M700 BDL, there is the good ol M1907 military sling. For the AR I run a Magpul that is convertible from single point to two point. Normally I run it as a single point because it seems to stay a little bit more nimble that way. However, if I am going to be working with both hands and need the rifle to stay out of my way on my back, I find it is more secure with the Magpul set up as a two-point sling.

I have and have used a bunch of slings, one-point, two-point, three-point, and loop slings to stabilize the rifle for target shooting. Any two- or three-point sling can be used as a "hasty" sling to stabilize the rifle but slings that can be used as loop slings are preferable, especially for sitting and prone shooting. For three-position shooting I prefer the leather 1907 type loop sling although the inexpensive USGI web sling works pretty well. Magpul also sells a relatively inexpensive two-point sling that can be set up to use as a loop sling or Rhodesian-type sling - the RLS sling. It works pretty well but the distance from the loop to the fore-end anchor point cannot be adjusted quickly like the 1907 or the USGI web sling.

I hate one-point slings. I suppose they are good in three-gun competitions and the like in which it is necessary to drop the rifle and quickly transition to a pistol. But they suck for carrying the rifle any distance and they are useless for stabilizing the rifle for precision shooting. If I really felt the need to be able to quickly transition the rifle from strong to weak side shoulder, I would go with one of the two-point "tactical" slings with a quick adjust feature for length, such as the Blue Force Vickers.

I actually like the much-maligned three point sling. If I were the type to be running around wearing a plate carrier with four double mag pouches hanging from my chest (which I am not) I would probably avoid the three point sling because people way more experienced than I am say that it is prone to snag on gear and can interfere with rapid access to the controls on the left side of the rifle and rapid magazine changes. But the three-point sling makes for very comfortable and stable carry in the outdoors or at a range and works better to stabilize the rifle when shooting than a simple two-point hasty sling does.

No pics, but I’ve got an IWC qd point drilled into my magpul handguard near the receiver. My vcas sling connects there in the front using a qd ring and connects to my stock at the rear.

On the Colt trooper, I use a proctor wotg sling. It loops around the rail and through the stock at the rear. The wotg sling comes with paracord that I use to loop around the rail and through the stock

My ARs are set up for defensive use and occasional 3Gun and this is sort of an evolution thing after multiple carbine classes and stages. I prefer a 2PT sling for the control aspect, seems like when I run a 1Pt I manage to hit myself in the nuts after transitioning while moving. Not the best pictures for sling display:

I predominately use BFG Vickers quick adjust slings, mounting the front QD mount as close to the receiver as I can to keep the forearm clear. I place the rear swivel on the opposite side (ejection port). My 3Gun rig above is the best picture of my normal mounting. I feel this makes shoulder transitions easier because when the sling is expanded it gives me a larger enough loop to transition without dropping my shoulder out and creating a neck loop.

The AR pistol has a Magpul MS4 Duel QD Gen2 sling as I thought I might try a 1PT again and the shorter barrel might eliminate any discomfort. So far it's remaining a 2PT.

Something like below but with the QD socket moved to the receiver end of the forearm. VTAC 2-point quick adjust.

Slides around, out of the way for back carry.

OP, is the magpul sling featured with metal or plastic pieces? My stock Sig 716 sling has metal which, as we know, isn't kind to a gun's finish.

My preferred sling setup:

Two point mounting, as far forward and as far back on the carbine as possible.

I really like the Blue Force Gear Vickers sling. I also really like the Tyr Tactical “Sling Ding” as invented by Pat McNamara and bought one from PatMac in a class.

Here it is on a Knight’s Armament Co. SR-15 E3 Mod 2 MLok 16” carbine:
