Shrapnel at the outdoor range

The bullet expended much/most of it's energy by striking a rock and changing direction , then continued to fly for a kilometer ?
Exact distance isnt mentioned in source, it just says about shooting range and nearby village which is 1 Km away as where was victim. Source is our local gun rights organisation - https://gunlex.cz/domu/monitoring-m...en-je-strelecky-klub-z-tabora-a-jeho-jednatel (its in czech language)

I really dont know how much energy bullet loose by the bounce but i would say it will not be that much... in open space, but in clay wall. Thats what i think it had to slow it most. Bullet had to force matter around to change direction. We already know its possible (at least i dont have reasson to doubt that case results), so i guess shooter had to hit upper part of bullet stop and where was bullet deflected up. So i guess it hit its victim when already falling
But imagine such a bad luck - rock in bullet stop on gun range which is in service for years, than distance, than fact that he is in that exact moment on roof.

A bullet flattened into a disc from hitting a steel plate can take flight like a Frisbee, arcing over a berm or other "backstops" .
I've seen this at a shotgun slug metallic silhouette match.
The range had a berm along it's left side out to 200 yards with an access road behind it.
These slug "discs" where found all over this road, especially parallel to the 200m pig targets.
:what:
