I am sure this has been talked of in the past, but I can't seem to find what I am looking for. I have a Krebs Custom KTR-03S AK variant built on a Saiga action. It is a post ban weapon, and has the mix of US parts etc. I am interested in getting a ide folding metal stock like you would find on a Russian AK. The only two websites I know which sell them are out of stock. These being Tantal and K-VAR. Does anyone know of another source for these stocks? Also, what about the legality of this swap. If I add this folding stock, how many US parts do I need to add to offset the stock? I am sure they count every nut bolt and screw. Thanks in advance.

The problem is that you usually need a new rear trunion to accomodate the folding stock. You could get the TAPCO stock or the ACE stock and avoid having to change the rear trunion. The Romanian folding stock works with the Romanian trunion in SARs, but I'm not sure if it would work with your Russian trunion. If your current stock is American-made and you put a non-USA made stock on it, you could be in violation.

About your only option if you don't like the Tapco or Romanian sidefolders is the one from Robinson Arms that fits standard stamped AKs, but unfortunately I understand it's near $200... http://www.ak47.com/VEPR Folding Stock.htm Pic of the non VEPR one down near the bottom

But by the time you figure in the cost of the Russian/Bulgarian side folding stocks, plus the labor to install the new trunion and such you're probably looking at a comparable price, unless you're going to do the trunion swap and any refinishing work yourself...

I don't believe the buttstock is US made on the KTRs, so it shouldn't effect the parts count one way or the other. Might want to double check though, if it is you'll need to add one more US part somewhere else to offset the change...

Try this one:

It screws right on to a wood-stock trunion... no modification. Has a rubber bumper to keep it from marring the right side of the receiver. Cool.

Badger Arms,

That AK is EVIL looking! (Which of course is a Good Thing!)

If you shoulder that rifle from the left shoulder, does your nose bump the stock's hinge? I experience this with my Tapco folder. It isn't painful but it's annoying.

Dave. Nah, notice that the stock is on the centerline when it's extended. You kinda rest your cheek against where it starts to loop down...

Wow the KTR03S is a sweet looking rifle. MUCH better than the one built on the VEPR since you actually HAVE some furniture options. You should be able to fit virtually any of the current side folder to that rifle (just make sure they will fit a standard stamped reciever). Pretty much the only stocks that require a new trunion are the underfolders.

And yes, ACE does make a reciever block to fit the Saiga rifles so that is an option (which i think would look pretty damn cool).
