I load 25.8gr varget @ 2.305 o.a.l and get same hole groups all day @ 100/200 yards..
I have shot well over 2,000 of these loads and find it extreamly accurate.
Please note that I have a long OAL due to head spacing.
The only down side to this load is it turns my bolt gun into a single shot as the rounds are to long for the mag.

I also found that w748 @ 26.5grs. Was another same hole load for me. Same OAL.

It took me around 40-50 different loads to find same hole groups. I would recommend starting at the mn. load according to whom evers reloading charts you are using and working your way up in .5gr incraments. When you find a groups that are "close" then go back and reload in .2gr incraments.

Also note that most guns will have a lower end accuracy load as well as an upper end accuracy load. So just because you find a load on the bottom end of the chart doesn't mean you have to stay there if you are looking for speed. Write that load down and then keep working your way up.

GL. with your reloading and shoot straight and smart.
What ever you do, unless you have the equiptment to do it, do not exceed max. loads. They are marked for a reason. I've seem to many ppl have firing pins blown back at them to advise any other way.

Axten, what kind of rifle are you using to get such groups. I have a Savage 12, 26" HV brl.

Need some Help Please on COAL Of .223 REM

I Have beenreloading rifle for about 2 years now using a accruate load out of my Savage Model 12 Targe Riflre. Load is as follows:

CCI 400 Primers
69 Gr. SMK BTHP
Rem Case AOL of case 1.755
23.9 Gr. Vartget
COAL 2.355 Yes I know its long but I used a Hornady AOL Headspace gage
and I am resting the cartridge .25 off the Lands
Slight factory Die C
the above gives me a 2 inch group 300 yards 2 inches.
Now the problem im starting to feel small loose spotes in my barrel when i run a patch in the barrel i have cronie the loads and im in spec have shot about 1000 round through the barrel but i dont want to burn up the barrel
anybody have any thoughts? Help:banghead::banghead:

... the problem im starting to feel small loose spotes in my barrel when i run a patch in the barrel...

With so few rounds and a sensible load, I'd suspect copper/fouling builld-up more than the barrel starting to go - especially given the history of some pretty rough barrels coming from Savage.

I'd use Sweet's or something similar to be sure the copper's out and then JB paste the barrel, especially the first several inches.
