Hey all, greetings from Montana.

I have been considering buying the conversion kit to use .22 LR ammo in a Sig P229. As is my custom I sold a bunch of coyote hides which I have been gathering up for the last couple of months for my gun/play money, so I think it is buy time. Anyone have real world experience with one of these kits? Specifically, do they function reliably, are they picky about ammo, anything you would change if you were to design it yourself? Any other comments from those of you who have experience with the unit would be welcome. Thanks in advance!

I have one for my P226 that works great.

Be forwarned that if you have problems with it and call SIG they will tell you to use CCI Mini Mags.

I used CCI Mini Mags for the first 200 rounds and it was flawless and have since switched to mostly Ferderal bulk pack and they also work very well with an occasional failure to ignite that usually works if I put that "dud" in the next magazine and try again.

Of course the problem right now is finding .22 LR ammo at all in most places.

Be sure to keep your P229 frame rails well lubed when using the conversion kit and also lighty lube the exterior of the barrel. I would suggest that at least the first 200 rounds be CCI Mini Mags if you have some or can find some.

Most I have read about love their SIG .22 conversion kits.

I have one for my P229 and P220. Both have have been flawless since they arrived. Mainly I use CCI but have tried various other brands. Any of the 40gr ammo seems to work well. They are great for teaching the wife and kids how to shoot. The only thing I would change is the slide locking back after the last round. From the factory the slide does not lock back after the last round. That is kind of annoying but you can buy new followers from Sigpower to fix that.

So, the deed is done and the order is placed........and BACK ORDERED just like everything else right now.:cuss: Will post up after I actually get it in hand and have a chance to shoot it a little.

I've had one for a 226 for a couple of years...same issues .....slide doesn't lock back when mag is empty ( and I haven't fussed with any aftermarket items to change it )....

its pretty accurate.../ about the same as kits I have for my 1911's...( from Wilson and Kimber )...although the Wilson kit, made by Marvel has a little different lockup to the frame...and its more accurate than the Kimber kit or the Sig kit.

It is finnicky on ammo ( but so are all the kits ) ....none of them run on the cheap bulk ammo / but they all run fine on CCI MiniMag...

My only issue is the cost of CCI MiniMag ammo ....getting up around $ 12 for a box of 100....and I can reload 9mm, with a premium bullet, at about the same cost....so I don't shoot the kit much / I just shoot 9mm for practice...( same on my 1911 kits ) ....the grandkids like them / but other than that, they don't get shot much ...and since I bought a Browning buckmark, and tricked it out with Tactical solutions barrel, grips, compensator and a nice red dot sight ....they'd all like to shoot it over any of the .22 conversion kits.../ and the slide locks back on the Buckmark....

so it turns out ...for me at least....the kits were ok / I just don't shoot them much.

I tend to practice with a 1911 in 9mm and carry a 1911 in .45 acp .....rather than any of the kits....

I am blessed with nearly a case of MiniMags, plus much more Super X Hi Vel., which another source has told me functions well, so.....waiting for the big brown truck!

I purchased a 226 conversion kit recently and have shot a few hundred rounds so far and it has worked great. I have shot mainly Remington Golden 22 (from 225 packs sold at Walmart) and they have worked as well as Mini Mags in it.

So....I have had this kit for just about a week now. A few observations. As those in the know advised, Sig recommended shooting CCI mini mags. They function well, as do 5 year old batch of silver box Winchester Super X hi-vel. Not a single failure yet. Best of all, I happen to be well supplied with 20 year old Federal red label 40 grain hollow points. They shoot SUPERBLY out of this setup, not so much as a hiccup and accuracy beyond what I am normally able to provide with a handgun. Carefully shot a 25 shot string at 25 yards off of a bench with sand bags which printed within 2 inches, which is beyond my usual abilitiy. I look forward to putting this combo in the hands of a certain shooting buddy who is a certified whiz when it comes to pistol accuracy, knowing he will be able to wring out every last drop of its potential.

Have also shot a couple hundred rounds of various bulk pac ammo, no failures to this point, but I can feel that the pistol responds less vigorously in my hand with each shot, plus they dirty things up much faster so I have kept the slide well lubed while shooting this stuff. Perhaps most surprisingly, I ran a box of T-22 ammo through and while I expected the failure to feed problems which I encountered, this ammo also printed no better than average bulk pac. Not sure exactly what this is telling me, except to save the T ammo for its intended purpose. Thanks to all who responded to this thread originally. Add me to the list of people who think highly of this kit.
