In my opinion they are excellent guns.

You will probably hear some Cohen/corporate Sig MIM bashing 'I wish it were yesteryear, old Sigs were so much better' nostalgia.

I do not think this is true, the old W German Sigs were not any better. The current production Sig P220 is still the best non-1911 .45 money can buy.

I have a carry elite and like it quite a bit. Most Sig purists don't care for the beaver tail, but I have a bunch of 1911's so I guess I like beaver tails.

With any gun, the truth is found in how YOU like it. If it fits your hand and works for you, then you have answered your question.

    Good Luck,

    RMD

Yes, I think they are great pistols. Not such a fan of the beavertail in Sigs, but I've been eyeing a 220 elite in Stainless. I have a 220R compact, and the only thing I don't like about the pistol is the rail. The short reset trigger is definitely a plus.

I have the P229 Elite in 40., it's been flawless for two thousand rds...I like it so much I am going to purchase the P220 Elite stainless. The wood grips are stunning in the sunlight, and the finish looks a sportscar!

I have a 229 and 226 in Elite. I love the short reset trigger and haven't had a problem with either. A bit heavy for me to ccw though.

The rail is just a matter of personal preference/use

    - my p220r snagged on me once during an IDPA match
    - frankly I think it detracts from the aesthetics of the pistol.
    - I don't actually need a rail (i.e., I don't accessorize)
    - all my other 220/226 holsters are for non-railed models

I used to agree about the old-versus-new Sig bashing being overblown until my P220ST went tits up and Sig refused to acknowledge the problem. If the Elite has the new external extractor, buy. If it doesn't, run for the hills.

Superb guns. I have a P220 Elite Dark. This gun is incredibly accurate, reliable, and a pleasure to shoot.

The P220ST's have external extractors now.

I wish it were yesteryear, I would buy up all the old Sigs and sell them now for a big mark up to the nostalgic shooters among us.

I have a Sig P220 SSS, basically the stainless version of the Elite. Very nice gun, very nice quality as far as fit and finish. very smooth DA pull, very nice in SA, actually a better trigger pull than my W. German P228. (The P228 has a very heavy mainspring)
Accuracy is outstanding with my match hand loads, very happy that it feeds SWC's.
    No complaints.

I don't know all of the differences, but Elite Dark has aluminium grips, night sights, and beaver tail.

A good friend has a p220, an older one, and its amazing. A nice big beavertail, a rail and better sights would only make it better. But they are kind of steep price wise, but you get what you pay for.

I thought the elite dark was the way to go as it was loaded, but I went with the Combat and its easily the most accurate pistol I own beside my SW 41 .22 target

You might not make as much money as you think. I keep reading about how the older SIGs are so much better and the only ones worth buying, but I keep finding them on Gunbroker at considerably lower prices than the new ones. Frankly, I like (and have) both old and new because they ALL work 100% of the time!!

    :)
