ok so hears the deal i have the choice of getting one or the other i can get a sig 226 or 229 both have trijicon night sights and are in pretty good shape id say 90% the only difference is the 226 comes with 3 magazines and the 229 comes with 1 but that aside which gun is better or more prefered i know the 226 is what the navy seals use and the coast guard uses the 229 and ive shot both they feel the same and shoot pretty close to the same so im just wondering what people would choose and they are the exact same price so just let me know which one u would pick and please tell me why u would choose each one

You don't say what caliber the 229 is. If it's a .40 or .357SIG, you can covert it back and forth between those two calibers just by swapping the barrel (can't do it with the 9mm version.) You can also get an aftermarket 9mm barrel that will work in it, and a .22 conversion. Makes it very versatile. I have three of them.

P226. More sight radius, more velocity, more weight. If you are going to shoot at something, may as well increase the chance of effective hits.

Are you going to carry it concealed? The 229 is a bit smaller. Easier to conceal.

It's gonna be solely a range gun and open carry at my job no need to conceal

    I own both.
    A 229 in 9mm and a 226 in 40 S&W.
I got the 226 for it's weight and size, for re-coil.....
    The 226 is 7.7" vis 7.1" for the 229.
The weight is only 2 oz more.
The 229 is a little better as a CCW.
It is hard to say just one..... :what:

(But I voted 226, wish you had both as a vote..)

    Good Luck,

    Lateck,

If its just for the range and open carry, the 226 is my choice. As someone else said, better sight radius and more velocity. I have one in 40 and it is great. I plan to get a 229 in 40 for ccw.

Without concealment as a requirement, you might as well get the bigger gun.

I like the feel of the 229, but for open carry, I agree that the 226 is probably a better option.

If you can rent each the buy the one that you shoot the best... I would venture it is the P226.

I said p229 because I have one, but I think it's a win with either choice.
