Sig p239 opinions please

I have been wanting to get rid of my Ruger P89 bcause it's too big to carry and because of that I never really shoot it. Right know I carry a Styre M40 but I would also like to have a 9mm I could carry. I think if I got a 9mm it would become my primary ccw and I would use the Styre when I went to places like Memphis or Little Rock. I like the little p 239 I found it seem like it would be easy to carry and the one I found had the Hogue grips which make it ultra comfy. The Hogue grips is one of the reason I bought the Ruger in the first place. So what I'm looking for are any reasons I should or should not get the Sig that I would not discover until I actually bought the gun.

The 239 is too big for 9mm carry? Not to me. It's certainly smaller than the P225, and seems to be about on par with the S&W 3913, a favorite of mine.

I like the 239, and I like it better with the Hogue grips, but I don't really care for rubber grips for carry. My shirt always hangs up on them.
 
I think what he mean't was that the platform was a little big for 9mm and that there are smaller options in 9mm.

I have the 239 in .40 and it is spectacular. None of my SIGs have ever malfunctioned and the little P239 is a soft shooting tack driver. It dissapears when carried and is easy to break down and shoot. You will not go wrong with a SIG, any SIG.

The Hogue grips feel good but tend to hang up on clothing. Stick with the factory grips or wood for carry.

Have I mentioned that SIGs in general are awesome?

I would also look at KAHR as they have some extremely tiny single stack 9mm offerings in roughly the same price range as the SIG P239, although I still feel SIG will give you better quality control KAHRs seem to be pretty well thought out little carry guns.

I have two 239s, one in 9mm and the other in 357SIG, and I use the 9mm for carry. They are great little guns. Very soft recoil, crazy accurate, and comfortable to shoot (I can get a full three-finger grip with mine).

I agree with what has been said about the 9mm platform and size efficiency. The Kahr MK9 and Glock 26 have the 239 beat in this category, but I still carry my trusty 239 9mm anyway. I only carry with the factory plastic grips because rubber is tacky, and the wood grips make it fatter than my USP Compact. However, the stock grips are fine, and the grip hides really well in this configuration.

I would suggest looking at one in 40S&W or 357SIG as the pistol really shines in these calibers.
 
Flashpoint, the only carry handgun I own is a Sig P-239 in 9mm. It weighs 25.2 oz unloaded, it is 1.2" wide,very,very accurate. Now there are many in this forum that know a whole lot more about guns than I do,but I really don't think anyone would tell you the p-239 would be a mistake or that you will not be anything short of completely happy with it.I carry strong-hip IWB in a WildBills Undercover holster and support it with his 1 1/4" double belt which by the way is on sale right now.I am certain that I can not juge which gun is best for you, but you will be hard pressed to find a better CCW gun in 9mm. The Sig is utterly reliable and one rugged little gun and if you buy one I doubt you will ever want to sell it for any reason. Oh did I mention it is utterly reliable :D :D

My daily carry is a P239 in .40. Spooky accurate, very controllable, extremely reliable, easy to strip and clean. Only failures I've ever had with this thing is with cheap gunshow reloads, and that was only for about the first 50 rounds. I don't think you could wrong with a P239.
 
Had a 239 in 40SW that I carried comfortably for years in a VMII. Found I could carry a 4" 1911 (Kimber CDP) just as easily in a VMII. Recoil of the Kimber is more friendly in 45 than the 40 in the SIG and I shot the Kimber better and faster. Sold the SIG. On the other hand it was very reliable and with the Hoage grip was comfortable.

This is one fine weapon, and in my experience, as good as it gets. If I could only have one hangun, believe me, it would be the P239 in .357Sig.

It's accurate, rugged, reliable, relatively inexpensive, and a hoot to shoot...
 
Lets see...

- 2000 rounds through my P239 in 357SIG without a failure

- disappears in a VM-II for everyday carry

- more than accurate for SD purposes

- 9mm conversion barrel arriving shortly for cheaper practice

- always get envious looks at the range when I practice

- practical and safe manual of arms

- makes the metal targets sound like cymbals in a Sousa march while other calibers make sounds like a counter bell notifying the waitress an order is ready

Sorry...No opinions here, just plain, cold facts. :cool:

ps - the Hogues do grip your cover cloth too much but wood or OEM grips work just fine
 
A fine handgun and some of our officers who only want to own one pistol carry this one on and off duty. With the officers the choice seems to be evenly divided between the .357 Sig and the .40 S&W, that's not to say the 9mm is not a good choice for CCW.
