I have a sig p365 that I carry when I want something more then my Ruger LCP max, I carry it with the 12 rds magazine all the time and just use the 10 rounds when I go to the range. If I want a smaller size I use the LCP max. Been thinking of getting a xl frame since I just use 12 rds magazine for carry. Is there any advantage to having the bigger frame over using the standard p365 with the 12 rds extended magazines. Thank you

Using a bigger frame avoids pinching when reloading. Otherwise it's the same.
BTW, you can buy grip modules. No need to swap the whole gun.

I like the versatility of being able to use 10 round mags when concealment is a priority. The 12 round mags in the same gun give a bit more grip length but gives up a little in concealment.

I found that the P365 12 rd magazine would sometimes pinch my hand and the grip felt squishy. I installed the XL grip module and the P365X feels more solid in my hand. Many people prefer the beavertail on the XL grip module for better control during recoil.

The XL Grip Module magazine well is also slightly flared to aid with magazine insertion.

If I ever feel the need for the shorter P365 grip module, I can swap the grip module in less than 30 seconds.

BEWARE and be careful when you remove the FCU from the grip module for the first time. If the tangs on the sear spring are too short, or if the sear spring tangs were installed incorrectly, parts of the FCU can fall off. If the sear spring tang length is okay and the spring is installed correctly, there will be spring pressure applied to any part that could otherwise fall off, and you should be able to violently shake the FCU and the parts will remain installed.

The P365 12 rd magazine will NOT fit into the P365XL grip module because a difference in the floorplate design. The P365XL 12 rd magazine will fit into the P365 grip module, but there will be a huge gap.



To deal with the magazine incompatibility issues between the P365 12 rd and the P365XL 12 rd magazines, I modified the P365 12rd magazine sleeve. I sanded the bottom of the sleeve adapter and sanded the nose of the adapter so that if I want to use the P365XL 12 rd magazine with the P365 grip module, I only need to slide the adapter onto the P365XL 12 rd magazine and it will insert into the P365 grip module without any gap.



I still need to sand with some smoother sandpaper, as I have only done the rough sanding of the adapter with coarse sandpaper so far.

Also, if you want to use the P365 12 rd magazine with the XL grip module, you will need to replace the floorplate with the XL style floorplate.

I like the native-to-size 12 round magazines, no fiddly bits or the like.

This is very much "it fits me" subjective; these things resonate that way, despite the all-too-human reflex to insist on Objective qualification.

Good point. I think that most people will find it easier to insert a magazine into the XL grip module.

For many this is true. But my XL hand protrudes 1" further downward past the end of the XL grip module. But it's still easier for me to insert magazines with the taller XL grip module than with the shorter P365 grip module.

Absolutely. We all have different size and shaped hands and fingers. This also holds true for the optimum position of the slide lock, magazine release, manual trigger safety lever, and take down lever. Those controls are all in the perfect position for my oversized hands and fingers. But I would prefer the trigger to be located 3/4" further forward. Can't win'em all.

I think so, and I don't think the increase in grip length substantially affects concealability. I find myself much preferring to carry my XL over my standard 365s; it is easier and faster to reload mags and shoot.

Same for me. The P365, even with my tiny hands, just felt too small for me to get a decent grip on the gun. Tried the P365X and it was a perfect fit; not too big, not too small...just right!

Also note that the Wilson grip module is designed to allow you to easily add 1.5 oz tungsten weight inside the handgrip. A person should probably check out the Wilson grip module before making a decision.

I added 2.0 oz of tungsten weight to my P365XL grip module, and 1.75 oz to my P365 grip module, for better balance when the magazine is nearly empty. But it was a lot of work grinding the tungsten into shape and then I still had to glue the weight in place.

I bought the 365 because it was small; anything that makes it bigger is a bad idea, IMHO. My hands aren't very big, but a longer grip would be better for a range gun.
But the 365 isn't primarily a range gun, tho' I shoot it quite a lot; it's not an unpleasant gun to shoot. (Unlike, say, an LCP or a 340 with magnums).
I pocket carry in an Alabama kydex; same gun, same place, all the time. Bone stock; even went back to the OEM Xray sights. Just wish I had more confidence in the SAS slide, as that clears a pocket even better.
This is just me; YMMV.

Even after polishing the trigger linkage contact points of my P365 with the curved trigger, the trigger pull was within an ounce of 7 lbs. I suspect that the actual trigger pull force with the flat trigger is close to the same as the curved trigger IF you pull the trigger in the same place as you would on the curved trigger. But as the trigger is flat, it allows you to pull slightly lower on the trigger, thereby giving your more leverage and reducing the force required to pull the trigger.

You might want to try a P365 with a curved trigger and see if you like it. If so, you can get an XL grip module and swap it within about 30 seconds. Or, if you really want optics, you can get a P365X and install the curved trigger. If you are mechanically inclined it's easy to do the trigger swap. MGW sells the curved trigger kit for $18.48. You could probably sell the flat trigger to someone. The flat trigger sells new at MGW for $47.52.

FYI, the trigger of the P365 series feels gritty until you either break in the trigger linkage components by use, or better still if you polish the trigger linkage components. Polishing won't change the trigger action, the trigger pull force, or the way the trigger breaks, but it makes it feel very smooth.

I installed an XL grip on my P365 and it made me a happy camper. With my XL hands, I just don't feel confident trying to shoot with the shorter P365 grip module.

That’s why I bought the P320 X compact. It does everything better than a 365 except conceal, it’s not a pocket gun, but it is infinitely easier to shoot quickly. I swap my M17 FCU into a different module for use with it, but it really is a fun carry and range gun. Especially with a greyguns trigger kit.

It's all about the compromise. The P320X is just slightly longer, thicker, and taller than a P365XL with nearly the same barrel length. The P365XL is about the absolute maximum size that I would consider to conceal carry. Even then, it's conceal in plain sight inside a fanny pack.

If I had another 5 years of shooting experience, I might consider carrying with the shorter P365 grip module. But I am going to try to P365 grip module at the range again. The stock P365 grip module is somewhere between uncomfortable and painful in my hand when I grip it tightly. I bought the 10 + 2 MagGuts spring kits and radiused the floorplate edges and radiused the P365 grip module bottom edges so that it is now relatively comfortable in my hand.

But the XL grip module with a radiused MagGuts 12 + 2 spring kit floorplate and radiused grip module edges just fits my hand like a glove. So I've tried my best to make my carry method fit the P365X.

If I were to open carry I'd seriously consider a P320 X-Ten.
