I'm looking at getting a new carry pistol in 9mm and narrowed it down to two choices. I'm looking at a Sig P938 or Kimber Micro 9. This is to replace my Kel-Tec PF9 for everyday carry.

For those that own one or both, what are the pros/cons for each one. Please only reply if you own(d) either or both,

Thanks.

No experience with the kimber but I have a 938 that has become my favorite carry gun in 9mm. Feels like a full size while shooting, carries very nicely, and has been nothing but reliable with all the ammo that I have tried. The one feature that I really like about it is the ability to cycle the slide with the safety on so I can put the safety on and then chamber a round. I have a CT laser on it but the sights have not given me any trouble hitting plates at 20yds.

I looked hard at both. The Cabelas CSE Kimber is a gorgeous pistol. However it also comes with a RH only safety, non-illuminated sights, and only 1 mag..and waz $100 more than a 938 Extreme. The only thing it had was better blending on the slide. If money was no object, get Kimber and upgrade. Sig is the better deal.

I have the Micro CDP. Great gun...accurate, easy to carry, 100% reliable. Can't ask for anymore. No experience with the SIG but undoubtedly a nice gun.

They're the same gun, both just upsized versions of the Colt Mustang copies they were already making. Cosmetics are the only difference.

My 938 is surpringly accurate and handles well. The Sig comes with tritium sights, which is a nice plus. Works well for pocket carry, too.

Thanks for the honest opinions. I can get either one for close to the same price depending on exact model/features. Does any one know how either one compares to the old Star Firestar pistols. Guess I just need to go fondle both at the local shops to see which one fits me the best.

I bought a Micro 9 and immediately took a dislike to it. The trigger was a disappointment, very rough for a single action. The gun was accurate but I didn't like the recoil. The safety would "bite" the web of my thumb. My range had a Sig to rent so I compared the two. The 938 has a different grip that helped with recoil a good bit. I decided I didn't want either one though. I have other small 9mm pistols I enjoyed much more such as the Walther PPS and a couple Kahrs. Just bought a new Shield to add to the small gun mix. I sold the Kimber a few weeks ago and don't miss it a bit.

If you have to get one, get the Sig. Rent one first before you buy though.

The dimension vary slightly, but they do appear to be almost identical. The hinged, rather than straight pull, trigger is the same as is the safety assembly. Even the ejector is the same! Makes me wonder who is actually manufacturing these pistols?

I did not care for thew shape of the trigger on my 938 and 238 so they've been replace with flat triggers from Galloway. The sharp bottom edge of the plastic trigger cut my finger after about 30 rounds or so.

I switched from a beretta nano to a Sig 938 for my EDC, and have been very pleased. It is reliable, accurate, and pretty light weight which makes pocket carry great.

I think it's a better deal than the kimber even though it's basically the same gun. The Sig comes with night sights and front strap checkering standard, I believe those are upgrades on the kimber. Standard mags are interchangeable, the Sig 7rd extended mag will work in the Kimber with some slight mods to the baseplate.

I handled (but didnt shoot) both a while back when looking for a smaller carry. I liked the feel and trigger of the Kimber better, but I would have been happy with either (probably my next handgun purchase will be one of em).

Ended up getting an ultra carry instead and love it.

I have a 938, don't have the Kimber. My 938 is my every day gun. One thing I did to improve my grip and the "shootability" was to purchase the extended magazine. That little lip on the bottom of it gives me great control of the gun. I have the same problem with the trigger that GarySTL had. I've been thinking of filing the point off the bottom of the trigger, but will look at the Galloway trigger. Either way, it's on my to-do list. Other than that, it's a dream to carry and to shoot. Built solid. Love those tritium sights.

I have a 938, but have never handled a Kimber. I used to lust over owning a Kimber 1911, but I don't feel the same way about the company that I used to so the Micro wasn't really a consideration.
I do love my 938 though, it's accuracy surprises me. For being a sub-compact, I shoot it better than most compacts I've tried and certainly better than any subcompact. I probably have around 1000 rounds through it and not a single hiccup so far. I did purchase it used, but I think I've shot it more than the previous owner. I've heard complaints about the single action trigger pull being heavy, but I think it's perfect for a carry gun. And like I said, I shoot mine very well so I don't think it's too high for range use either.

It really doesn't work for pocket carry for me, but it disappears in an IWB holster. My single complaint is I wish the safety was a tad larger. It works fine for range use, but I'd prefer just a little more surface area for a defense scenario. I have seen folks modify an extended safety for the Mustang to fit the SIG, so that's on my list of things to do.

Thanks everyone. I have been doing a lot of reading on different boards and it looks like I will go with the Sig. Now to see what the shops have and decide which 938 I want.

In the 938, you have to get the Hogue grips. It transforms the feel and shootability of the pistol. With the rosewood grips, it's a Chihuahua gun: little and barky. The rubber grips fill your hand and turn it into a Jack Russell: small, fierce, and smart.

Not a fan of little dogs myself.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep that in mind.

Rubber grips on a sub-compact? Not for me. Aside from sticking to the clothing and interfering with both concealment and a smooth draw, you certainly don't require larger grips to "fill your hand." You simply require the right grips for the size gun. Such as the nice Hogue Extreme stocks.

The P-938 is a more reliable pistol than Kimber's offering, with a better trigger and substantially better accuracy.

I have both and prefer the SIG 938 over the SOLO Carry. The SIG is easy to rack the SOLO is a bear. The SIG is simple to take down the SOLO
is a royal PIA to take down. My SIG 938 Equinox came with night sites the SOLO didn't. Now, to give the SOLO credit, the trigger is probably the
best you'll ever have without having it worked on. Out of the box it was butter smooth with a break like crystal. Still, I actually shoot the 938
better. Could be the better sights or the ergonomics. The SOLO is on my Trade or Sell list. The 938 is not. I even bought the .22 cal conversion
kit for the 938. Even it came with night sights and makes a fun .22 LR to play with.

What magazine is that on the bottom picture 938?

That's a SIG 10 round .22 LR mag. And I apologize to everyone. When I read the post I saw SOLO and not Micro 9.
Not sure what I was thinking but it's my fault.

I don't own a Micro 9 but I do own a couple of Kimber 1911s (.45 ACP Custom II TLE and 9mm Tactical Pro II) - great pistols. I do own a P938. It's my EDC which I pocket carry in a Desantis Super Fly or carry OWB in a Desantis Mini Scabbard. When I was looking for a 1911 style gun to pocket carry in early 2015, I checked on Kimbers but at that time the Micro 9 didn't exist. The P938 Extreme was a perfect choice for me. I was able to rent one at my local range and after shooting it, I was sold. In 9mm, it didn't require me to add a new caliber of ammo to my kit and the manual of arms is basically the same as a 1911. It had night sights, a checkered front strap, an extended (7 rd) magazine and a lifetime warranty. In fact, the warranty came into play a couple months ago when, occasionally, the hammer would follow the slide forward rather than remain cocked after a shot. Sig CS was great, fixing the problem, installing all the design improvements that had happened since I bought my 938 and even tossing in an additional 7 rd mag when the gun was returned. Recently, I looked at the Micro 9. I may be wrong, but it looked to me that a Micro 9 that has all of the features of the P938 may be significantly more $$$ that the Sig. JMO

I see the opposite, non CT Kimbers seem to be available at around $500-600 while the Sigs seem to start at $700+
