Hello all, going to finally pick one of these up soon. I've had a P238 for a long time, and need it's slightly bigger brother to carry as well.

Is there any self defense/JHP ammo these guns don't like?

Echo Critter, my P 938 SAS will eat it all and put the bullets just where you want them. Check Sig for the non target .22 conversion kit.....night sites and a slide the same length as 9mm the kit is one heck of a bunch of shooting fun. My conversion does not seem to care if I give it mini mags or forty year old Montgomery Wards long rifles.

Sort of a thread hijack for which I apologize but do any of you shoot lead bullets in your P938 for practice? Does Sig caution against such practice like Glock does? THX

I'd seen a couple (anecdotal) reports on a forum where posters claimed their 938 wouldn't feed the Hornady Critical Defense (Flex-Tip) ... I finally got into my case of the stuff and found my 938 feeds it just fine, with no issues.

Likewise, I've had zero malfunctions to date with any JHPs through my 938 (past week shot some WWB 147-grain JHPs found at a great price in Wal-Mart, functioning was perfect).

For self defense ammo I never tried anything other than Speer 124 grain standard velocity Gold Dots and they never failed after several hundred rounds. I also never had any failures with 124 grain Blazer or my 115 grain jacketed handloads.

I shot 5 of the Gold Dots over a chronograph and got an average of 1067, ES 71.

I've shot the gold dots, corbon power ball, Hornady critical defense and my own reloads with berry's truncated point plated lead bullets. No issues with any of them.

And I also recommend the 22 conversion kit.

I'm STILL kicking myself for not buying a P938 when they had their Cabela's promotion last year. Buy a P938, get the .22 upper free.

I've rented the 938 at the local range, found it to be a gem of a little gun like the 238. Only a couple of models available at my local shop at the moment. I think I'm going to get the "extreme" as my P238 Extreme came with two mags.

Buy it! I also got the .22 conversion kit w/nite sights. No problems with any .22lr and no problems with any hp's or plated reloads.
It will be your most convenient carry weapon in an Alabama Holster front pocket holster!
Nothing negative in my experience.

There was a time when I was going to buy a Glock 43. I picked up a couple of Taran Tactical baseplates for an eventual purchase,......but came across a fairly good deal for a P938 [$550 shipped and transferred] and have been carrying it since it came in. It's a very good shooter and quite controllable even with hotter carry loads. Puts them in a small group!

Sometimes I am curious about the Glock 43 and how it would shoot,.....but really, I like the "cocked and locked" aspect of the gun.......and not having to fully eject a round at night when I put it in the safe. I just jam my thumb between the slide and the hammer, pull the trigger, and slowly let it down. Whereas, the Glock [or any striker fired pistol] has to be ejected and reinserted the next time you take it out for carry....which makes it necessary to have that "+ one" round just sitting in the gun safe. Anyway, that's just a person thing on that.

All this to say,.....I would recommend the P938.........and I may have to look in to the .22lr slide!

Why do you clear or decock a weapon when putting it away if you're just going to reload it the next day? It's not going to go off just sitting there and if it's locked in the safe nobody's going to get it; it's all that unnecessary extra handling that increases your chances of an accident.

Well I bought a new "Blackwood" today. Got it for a great price as it's been at this shop for about a year. I wanted a SS slide, this one fits the bill nicely although they do have the "SAS" model on order for me.

Can't wait to take it out to the range. It fits in my DeSantis Pro Stealth holster perfectly. Ironically for a G43/Kimber Ultra Carry as well (which I also own) and now have three guns that work in the same holster...LOL

It's just a personal thing.....not liking a live round at the ready at all time.
