Well I put a deposit down on a P232 .380, about 2 months ago. My local LGS said that there sig rep was having trouble getting stock from Germany.

So I went in and looked at the P238 .380, great size and I switched my deposit and now will get the P238 next Monday! Seems like a better gun and less cost too!;)

After seeing many Youtube videos on the P238, I think I made a good move. I still want a P232 but will have to wait.

be safe

Personally, I think it would be a big stretch to call a US-made P238 "better" than a German P232. Smaller and lighter, yes - but better? Maybe better for your uses, and that's all that matters.

I really like my p238. It's the only pocket gun I like shooting. If you plan on putting it in your pocket, you made a good call.

A p232 is a nice shooting .380, arguably nicer than a 238. It is bigger and heavier though.

I have a P232SL. It was a gift from my father when I got my carry permit 9 years ago, long before the P238 was even a thought.

If the P232 didn't have such sentimental value, I'd swap it out for a P238 in a heartbeat. The P238s I've fired have been lighter, more accurate, and softer shooters than my P232.

What I can say for my P232 is that sucker is way more accurate than it has any right to be. But it hasn't seen holster time in years. It's really a dated design that forces the shooter to make compromises we no longer have to make.

Other than a minor jam problem with the ramp feed vs magazine lip, I am really excited to get the gun, shoot it and get it dialed in.:D

That seems to be the only problem via youtube about the pistol.

Fixable and a good reason to get to know the insides of my weapon!:)

be safe

Nice choice. I really like my SIG P238 which I got to split carry time with my Colt Mustang. Both are soft shooters and more than accurate enough for concealed carry work. The P238 has a slightly heavier trigger pull but has much easier to acquire sights; an added bonus was that it came with SIGLITE night sights as well. The Nitron finish, rosewood grips, detachable laser, and holster were all nice additional features that came with the gun. guns2035_zpseff88eb7.gif

The 232 is a whole different breed with superior ergonomics for conceal carry whereas 238 looks like a midget 229

Godfather- have you shot them side by side?

What do you feel makes the ergonomics better for CCW for the P232 than the P238?

When you get your p232 do not clean it before you shoot it , sig uses Mil-comm grease in all there firearms,it has had 1 clip shot at factory before shipping.Needs to be shot and cleaned and shot some more and then cleaned(read the lube info that is included in box) at least 500 rounds the be broke in real good. The more you shoot the more you will like it.Have had no one complain of feeding problems or any problems. My wife shoots this pistol and she loves it,5years and counting!

p/s I am a Sig Dealer in Nebraska

Having had my Sig for about 9 years now, and show it extensively, I just want to weigh in on this one quickly.
I've found that the gun is completely reliable within the first 200-250 rounds. But if I am doing an extended range session, by the time I hit the 200 round mark, the feed ramp is so crudded up, the gun has trouble loading, and will get regular failures to feed once I hit that point, unless I break it down and clean it. With my other autos, I can go hundreds of rounds more and not have any problem.
Now, practically, is it really a concern? No. In carrying the gun for CCW, I can pretty confidently say that I won't hit the 200 round mark in any encounter. I'd have to carry 28 magazines on me to even have that much ammo! The only time I'd ever put that high of a round count on the gun is when I'm at the range where breaking it down to clean is easy, and even then it just needs a quick wipe on the feed ramp and slide rails and we're back in action.

I just thought I'd mention it since it is one of the quirks I've dealt with with this gun that I have not had with others.

Godfather- still waiting for your reply. I'm interested to know if you were speaking from any level of experience whatsoever.

Huh? The P238 has zero in common with the P229.

It is a clone of the Colt .380 Mustang Pocketlite.

I have had 3 different P230/P232s and currently have a P938. All have been flawlessly reliable. In this day the P230 platform is large for a .380, but they are very accurate.

The P238 is nothing at all like a P229. Other than both are semi-auto pistols, I don't see any similarities.

My son's girlfriend was looking for a small carry gun. We went with her to buy and she looked at and held most every .380 in the well stocked store. When she was about to give up I asked here to look at the Sig P238 and she really liked it even though it was twice the cost of the others. She bought the P238 and has been shooting it for about 6 months now without one problem. GREAT 1911 style little pistol.

My son carries a 9mm but was so impressed with the P238 he was rethinking his prejudice against the .380 ACP. You can imagine how happy he was when I told him Sig has a similar 9mm that's just a hair larger, the P938. I don't have to tell you what he's now carrying, do I?

It is Monday the 12th, my 10 day wait is over! (even though they changed the 10 day wait, but have not implemented it yet?)

I have 3- 7round mags on the way, and a lighter mainspring in the mail!

Off to the local gun store to get my P238! ! ! !

My Christmas present to me! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

This little bugger shoots very well!!! over 200 round of 100gr ball ammo, no stovepipes, ftf, no problem at all.

There is what seems like an extra pin, courtesy of the California Legislature, that seems to try and walk out while shooting. I has something to do with the magazine I believe. The pin is situated between the mag release button and the pin that secures the top pivot of the trigger.

Funny it doesnt show up on the Sig Sauer schematic supplied with the gun.

Anyhow, time to clean, and reload with some good HP's! I hope I never have to use it.

Archangel, no offense meant in any way but I am constantly struck by how often men do not consider the .380 adequate for their own defense but are satisfied that it is adequate to defend their womenfolk.

The P224 is a little midget P229. The P238 looks like a midget 1911. :)

Maybe theres a large life insurance policy involved?
