Sig Stainless 1911?

I have an offer of a NIB Sig 1911 stainless for my 1979 Marlin 39A, Weaver RV7 scope and Leupy rings.

Monetary wise I think it is a very good deal for me. Doing a search on the Sig 1911 has left me confused. For most 1911 guys it is not a top pick. There doesn't seem to be anything specific and maybe it is because it isn't a traditional 1911.

Does the Sig use the same holster as true 1911s?

BTW, the Sig would be for home defense and range toy.

Opinions?

 

dude i had a Sig 1911 cept it was nitron not stainless, thing ran flawless, accurate as all get up. never had a problem with it, even shot an IDPA match with it. only reason i got rid of it was to get a Springfield TRP

*Edit* it fit into a basic 1911 holster just fine, does have an external extractor which some people dislike, others dont, i never had a problem with it

 

trade if for a springfield armory mc operator, or TRP.

 

If the holster is leather with a little "give" to it, it can be forced in until the leather eventually forms to it, or the holster wetted and reformed. If the holster is closely molded to a standard 1911 and made of a rigid material like plastic or horsehide, it may not go in it at all. This is based on my experience with a Revolution Carry in 2007. That gun was also extremely unreliable and broke and shed parts on the range floor, so much so that SIG voluntarily replaced it. That gun was much better until it broke its thumb safety. I knew about the possible holster fit issues going in and would have paid for a custom job had the pistol been reliable. I don't think I would make the proposed trade.

 

I've owned 3 Sig 1911's and all have been flawless. My first was an XO and the other 2 were 4" commanders of which I still have one. I had one that the front night sight went out after a couple of months, but Sig shipped the replacement no questions asked. All were extremely reliable and accurate out of the box. The Sig does have a square slide (like Caspian) and the holster for a regular 1911 round slide is going to be a little different so not all holsters will be compatible, or may need extra time to stretch the leather. Some don't like the external extractor, but that's an aesthetic issue. It works. I'd make the trade in a heartbeat.
