FTR, I own one for my J-frame S&W.
1. Good quality, simple, and rugged. Imagine that, just as advertised. Can recommend with confidence.
2. Retention is secure enough without a thumb/trigger guard strap/snap. And I am a "I like thumb snaps on my OWB holster" kinda guy. I assume I will fall down in the woods, or go bibbity-boppity down a slope. BTDT. Have not yet done so with my SDP, but I have done a handstand all rigged up shimmying & trying to shake it loose. After I was done and my kids stopped laughing, my J-frame was still in the holster. Overall coverage of gun is good, too, protection-wise.
3. That security comes at a price. If your J-frame / small-frame snubby has boot grips, old school S&W factory wood grips, or pretty much any grip that does NOT extend below the grip frame, you will find getting a hand on the grip is harder and will take longer to draw than most any other belt holster. You'll have to adjust your grip a bit after drawing.
4. Don't let Rob talk you out of the third slot on the Silver Dollar Pancake. I did and ended up having to buy another holster for cross draw and my SDP is not compatible with his nifty-looking chest rig. Live & learn.
5. Not the best IWB, kinda T.H.I.C.K., IMO. SDP is primarily OWB, can do IWB, but that is not its forte. The price you pay for thick & rugged leather and a compromise design. You want quality & comfy IWB, Milt Sparks Summer Special, VM2, and clones thereof are where it's at.
