Sizing down 44mag to .415

I know a 44mag SWC is .430 inches. I need a bullet .415. Is it possible to size down a 44 mag SWC 7.5mils all the way around to .415? How many steps? Please keep in mind I will have to buy the custom sizes from Lee at $30 a pop.

Are you trying to swage .44s down to .41s? More info please...

Matt, I think that may more that you 'd want to size them down. I size and lube using a Lyman 4500, and I'd bet that you'll knock of most off the lube grooves and the cannelures. All that displaced lead has to go somewhere. Let me guess, you've just picked up a .41 mag and your trying to use the cast bullets you already have for your .44 mag? I'd say, buy a nice .41 Keith mould and cast them up specifically for that .41 mag.

It CAN be done, but why? I would think you would be better off selling the 44s and buying 41s.

Also, you may want to slug your barrel. The cast bullets I produce are sized to .411, not .415. I think most 41 mag barrels are standard at .410. Are you trying to create something else?

Get some cast .416 rifle bullets.

I've taken a 250 K RCBS Keith bullet to .410 with satisfactory results. Does tend to really reduce the lube carrying capacity of the bullet but it can be done with success and without undue deformation if you use the proper tool.
