I have an sks and because my hands can get rather sweaty some of the time my hand can slip down the grip, so i was wondering would putting a little skateboard tape around the grip like some people do on their handguns hurt the finish on the stock if I was to remove the tape eventually?

It shouldn't. A little dab of goo gone or something along those lines would take care of any glue left behind if/when you remove the tape, and it shouldn't damage the finish in the wood either.

yes, if you ever remove the tape, it will take the finish right off with it.....skate board tape adhesive is incredibly strong....

this is what i use on my guns

its a gauze tape that only sticks to its self( like an ace bandage).......it is incredibly grippy and will not harm your finish when removed.

I guess it depends on the adhesive used on the tape. I've got some low adhesive grip tape that I use for all sorts of things, and it hasn't been a problem. Putting some of the slide of my S&W 22a when I get it out of layaway.

The stuff M-Cameron suggests probably would be a better way to go. Not a much grit like a skateboard tape, but then you have zero worries about the finish.

Another alternative:

Cell-phone tick-ums are incredibly thin, and don't have "permanent" adhesive qualities. Try a Radio Shak or other, or Target. You can even get it in camo.

Another option I have used to to put a base cover of electrical tape, then the skateboard tape over it. The electrical tape glue won't hurt the finish.

Ive used skateboard tape on my wood stocked AK's (and other guns) for years. Never had an issue with the finish when it needed replaced. I just use WD40 to remove the glue residue (if there is any), clean that off with Gun Scrubber, and reapply the tape.

Jhk94 has it. Or just do what I do and slip an old piece of bicycle innertube ( mountain bike size) over the section. English racer size works well on cz52 pistols, ak grips, ect. If you use real sticky tape and your finish isn't varnish or polyurethane, it's going to pull off. Make sure it faces outside out.

Thank you, i will probably try JHK94's idea or AK103K's idea as i think i have some gauze like that laying around. Also @vellocet, would the innertube be able to go over the stock without weakening in any way?

Should work better than Pac-skin. I have some of that and it didn't last more than a season on my AR.

Yeah, it does. The two sks I use it on, one is polyurethane and the other real thick varnish. Remember, mountian bike tubes. If they slick up in use just wipe them with a wet rag. Try not to savage the tube when you cut them: clean one stroke cut. And, like, I use used tubes myself. If you wet them some they go on easy, and if you have some raggy ends towards the front of the rifle that actually improves the grip. English racer tubes work great on alot of pistols, too. Just make sure that the part of the tube that woud be on the outside normally is on the outside for this, too. "One Size Fits All?'
