Ok.
so you actually get all 24 without using your option. (happiness is station 8 with 3 shells in your pocket).
what do you do with the 25th shell?
I'm in no danger of doing this but someone is going to ask and i have no clue.

thanks

BozemanMT,

What I've always done & always seen done, is to shoot one on the high-house, one on the low-house and take your option by shooting the 25th on the low-house.

First time that you're in that situation, it sure is a knee knocker.

Hang in there, you'll get there soon enough and after awhile, you'll even feel comfortable with having your option at #8-low.

Exactly as Mercury said, if you are straight, the last two shots is low house 8.

Once you get to it once it won't be that hard the second or eightieth time. :D

I have my own druthers.

I should have an extra shell or two anyway besides the "box 25". If not I bum one. See - I like to load two with permision and shoot a double. :D

One shoots one bird at a time. Right? ;)

So I shoot my low bird first ( making it a straight) then the high bird sails over and I pop it. I like to bend the rules, or break 'em. Really screws the psych of the squad if shooting against. Or if we be a close squad, we all do it to boost each other and screw the competition watching us. :D

I mean doubles at L 8 and L 7 makes it fun...

Of course I like to walk into low 8 and low 7 a bit to shoot them too...

Rumor is I "might" have done some other druthers with this Skeet dealie too....*snicker* ...just might be revealed some day, somewheres...*snicker*.

Oh BozmanMT just a tip if I may: If you only use one shell to break the doubles at 1, 4, 7 you will have extra shells to play with on 8  . 4 is tricky...but doable. :uhoh: :D

Pick up the tempo and bring it on home...

I never shot skeet in official competition but our club rule was if you broke the first 24, the 25th shot was an open option and could be shot from any station and house of your choice. Low house 7 is generally conceded to be the easiest bird but since station 8 was never a problem for me, I generally chose Low 8 for the 25th shot. (Unfortunately, didn't have that choice too many times.)

Good shooting and be safe.

Yeah, so what is the "official" rule on that?
I've done that a couple times (more by accident than anything, but it is cool).
but you end up with an extra shell.
i usually take it to miss high 8 (man that station hates me), but i'm sure that's not the rule.

Yeah, so what is the "official" rule on that?

The "official" rule is : First bird dead repeat the double.

The double is thrown again and even if you miss the first bird, and hit the second - you have that station marked as dead birds. Losing that first bird on the repeat is NOT scored as a lost bird.

Now some of us stopped engaging in sanctioned shoots, stopped shooting for "scores" in the traditional manner. ;)
