So had a bad experience with a box of herter's 7.62x39 today. Took the sks out with 2 boxes of herter's ammo. The first box shot pretty normal with the exception of 2 where the empty case went sideways and didnt fully eject. The second box however was anything but normal...2 of the cases split, one down the side and one right on the shoulder; 4 ended up withe pierced primers one of which the primer like seperated from the case itself and 4 of the cases didnt extract at first, the bolt cycled but the shell didnt extract, the bolt stuck and then with a good pull it extracted the spent shells.
Anyone else have this problem? I think its the ammo because i've put a couple hundred rounds through it of wolf and some off brand stuff that i got for cheap without so much as a shell not fully ejecting.

I have not used that ammo but like you said, it most likely is the herters. What's interesting is you have several issues, split cases, pierced primers and failure to extract. Are you using a yugo sks? Some yugos (one of mine included) have been known to pierce primers of suspect ammo.
I would check the firing pin and channel for gunk/obstructions which can happen with pierced primers.
Sorry, all I have but junk the ammo or try in another 762r rifle. And be CAREFUL!:D
Also,Yugo's are prone to cycling issues because of leaks in the gas system.

Herters advertises their 'new' ammo as being made by a huge and well known Russian company. Hmmmm?

It is a yugo. I already shot off all the herter's ammo i had and i always check and clean the firing pin and channel because i know they are known for stickin and causing slamfires. I've never had an cycling issues before this though.

I get occasional failures to fire with Wolf in my Tula SKS. Good solid firing pin smacks too, just no "bang."
