Continuing to address some defects in firearms as they come up;

Myself and 2 others all agreed the rear sight on my Norinco SKS is too narrow. It's such a tight fit for the front sight that it all just goes blurry, astigmatism ya know. The only, only time it's clear is when you're in full sunlight aiming at bright-white snow background.

Can I replace this rear sight, or file it out to be wider? Would painting a U like on a Glock rear help?

Don't know what others might say in reference to the SKS specifically, but a peep sight is a good remedy for chincy rear sights. My Yugoslavian has a circular shield around the front sight as well so I don't know if that would help or hinder if yours is similar. Maybe the open sights off a Yugo would work for yours? They seem well-proportioned and pretty solid.

Where on the stock are you planting your cheek? It's been several years since I owned an SKS, but my mind doesn't want to associate anything about an SKS with "too tight". :evil:

Shooting my AR, I'm putting my nose on the charging handle. I don't think I'd want to get that close with 7.62X39, but consider getting a little closer to the sight...

Maybe I'm missing something here...
