I know ATI makes one. Does Choate make one, or have any plans to now that the AWB is gone?

I'm building an SKS trunk rifle, and I'm trying to make it more compact.

The SKS wasn't covered by the AW ban. It is covered by 922(r) which is still in effect and states it is illegal to assemble from imported parts a firearm that is illegal to import. Hence it is still illegal to put a folding stock on an imported SKS.

Then why on earth would any American manufacturer make a folding stock for the sks?

Because you can replace a given number of parts in an imported rifle with American made parts and ATF no longer considers it "imported." It can also be used as a replacement for an existing folding stock already on an SKS prior to 1989.

Hey, if I have a SAR that was imported after 1989, but has a pistol grip, it should be safe to assume that it has the correct number of US parts, so if I put a US folding stock on it, it will be legit?

most SKS I have seen use standard stock.

sks rifle is imported under C&R rules if you modify the rifle it then falls under 922(r) no rifle can be manufactured with more than 10 parts imported parts so you need 10 or fewer imported parts.

www.tapco.com they have a few SKS US manufactured parts
op rod,gas piston, upper handguard and gas tube. combined with a stock kit you can make the number of parts needed to legally convert a C&R rifle. some US manufactured magazines can help as well. magazine body, follower, floor plate count as parts.

heres the list of parts for every rifle though not every part is on every rifle.
(1) Frames, receivers
(2) Barrels
(3) Barrel extensions
(4) Mounting blocks (trunions)

To the best of my knowledge (and I could be wrong), the Century SAR and WASR hicaps (pardon me, normal caps) used the Romanian handguards and shoulder stocks, but used a US made pistol grip to add to the US parts count along with a US made FGC and gas piston.

Hmm... I'll e-mail them and see what they say. Hopefully they know what they do. :D

Yes, SARs and WASRs have Romanian wood, the only external US part is the pistol grip...
