I am not a big fan of .40 but figured that I may as well have one in the collection just for the heck of it. Early on in this shortage and all through the last one .40 was readily available. (Even now while scarce its cheaper than 9mm.)

Anyway, I am thinking I want something "a little less mainstream" but not too much of an oddball. I would like to hear owner/user reviews for any variants of the following that feature at least 12+ round capacity:

FN
BHP
CZ

And anything else that fits my description. Not interested in Glock, M&P, XD, Beretta or Walther.

What I would look for in a .40 S&W if I were going to buy just one would be heft, first and foremost. A lot of people don't like the way that .40 feels, but with a heavy enough gun, it goes away.

For something not mainstream, how about the EAA Witness Elite?

Best 40 I have ever shot is my CZ40B! If you can find one, get it!! Best CZ factory trigger I have ever felt.

Check out the Bersa in 40 S&W. I've got a full sized 9mm version and the same frame has a 40 version. I think it holds 13 rounds of 40. My 9 has been reliable, accurate, and I love the layout of the controls.

Good Luck.

I like the S&W M&P it has 3 different size back straps for any size hand, and if you put a Apex trigger kit in it will shorten and smooth up the trigger pull on them can't go wrong with a Smith

FNX-40 has a nice trigger and can go cocked and locked.

Sig 2022 in .40. It's also easy on the wallet ($380-425 pre panic).

Charter Arms has a .40s&w revolver.

Beretta Px4

Jericho / Baby Eagle

Maybe a Smith 411, 4006 or one of their kin if out of production equates to not mainstream.

Nonstandard 40S&W? I have a bunch of 40S&W pistols, and my Kimber Stainless II in 40S&W is probably the most, um, non-standard of the bunch.

My FN was in 9mm (FNP-9) but it was a great shooter, first semi-auto I owned and it was my bedside gun/range toy for years.

The problem with FN is that even though they're great guns and I've got absolutely nothing bad to say about them and I wouldn't hesitate to get another one if it came down to it, CZ's and Hi-Powers are just better in my opinion.

I have an HK USP 40, a Gen4 Glock 22, and a Sig P226 in .40. I like and shoot them all a lot, but if I had to pick one it would be the P226

I like my BE2 in .45ACP. Would love to audition a compact 40. Alas, the steel ones only come in full size.

I am absolutely kicking myself for not snagging one when they were giving them away at like $269 online...

Check out the Beretta PX4 in 40. Softest shooting 40 I've ever shot. Close second is the Beretta 96.
