I always thought it was kinda weird to see a "modern" double action in a frontier style holster but the more I looked at the old H.H. Heiser stuff, the more it started to grow on me. I don't think it fits at all with a truly modern revolver but for something around 100yrs old, it pretty cool. So I got a wild hair and drew up a Slim Jim for the New Service .38-40. It's a dark chestnut brown and moderately aged. May do a little more aging on it.

I like it and it's a perfect holster for
the old warhorse.

Just as an aside, I alway liked that in
the movie "Treasure of the Sierra Madre"
Bogart, Huston and Holt wore one-piece
Western holsters that literally swallowed
up the Colt "Army" .38s (more than likely
marked Official Police but for the timeline
in the movie I think "Army").

Gorgeous work Craig....You've inspired me to make up one for a Smith 4th variation Hand Ejector 6" in .32-20. Rod

I think it looks great and it’s a great idea. I have always wondered why people think Slim Jim’s are only for cap guns and single actions.

Beautiful holster. And it looks absolutely appropriate for a New Service chambered in one of the old cartridges that were still around after the turn of the century. Well done.

Well done CraigC, you are a wizard with leather craft!

The California pattern sure does look good with the large frame DA revolver, an excellent combo for sure. :)

Stay safe.

I have to get one of those styles of basket weave stamps.
I don't remember where I got it but probably Tandy. I was going to check my order history but it seems that they have reset all customer accounts. I'll get the number off it.

Hey @CraigC , can uhhh.. can we get a picture of the iron out of the holster?
Ask and ye shall receive!

Outstanding. That looks great. I’ve got three of your holsters and very pleased with all. Keep up the good work.

I’ve made quite a few holsters.

I’ve never tried stamping a pattern. I’m afraid it would:

A. Drive me insane.
B. I’d screw it up.

That’s very nice. Very.

It's easier than I thought it would be. In fact, I stamped my first holster and have done every one since. Practice makes perfect. ;)
