Slugs in modified choke?

Safely, yes. Accurate, maybe. Modified is about where choke is detrimental. Yours may or may not degrade accuracy, only testing will tell.

Remington managed recoil slugs were
fairly accurate in my 870.25 yard
off hand groups were about a 1½"
for 3 shots.Any other slugs were
easily double in size.

What chokes should you not shoot slugs through? Are there any chokes that can cause you are your equipment harm by putting slugs through them?

Some slugs, mostly the traditional Foster type, are made undersize to accomodate any choke. I think any slug can SAFELY be shot through any standard shotgun barrel.

One writer who tested slugs out of a smoothbore maintains some choke actually helps when shooting out of a non rifled barrel, as it aligns the slug.

Smoothbore slugs and barrels basically come to "try it and see". I didn't have too good of luck last year trying to make a smoothbore shoot slugs with a scoped gun, but I didn't try too many brands before I got sidetracked with rifle season, then blackpowder, then...

The foster type slugs with the "rifling" on them are actually swaging lines on the lead to allow it to swage down going through tight chokes, they will make contact in a standard cylinder bore barrel usually, but will reduce down when forcing through chokes. If you use choke tubes you need to be absolutely sure they are tight as it is possible to tar them out of the threads in the end of the barrel.

My old 1100 20ga has a mod choke in it and will keep 2.5-3" groups at 50 yards with standard Remington slugs. Acceptable for a smoothbore shotgun and the distances where I usually hunt.
