• Possible Downtime Alert

I am working to migrate THR from the current cluster to a new one. I would like to get this done before the weekend, but it's unclear what the timeframe will be, as testing is still ongoing. As I am writing this the new (rebuilt) host is doing a burn-in to ensure that everything will keep running under load.

When the migration happens users will see a Cloudflare message indicatating it cannot connect to the server. This is expected, and depending on how the migration goes this may last from 30 minutes to 3 hours - I won't know more until testing the various migration options is complete and I have finalized the plan.

More information is available in this thread.

As always, thanks so much for your patience.

I am looking to restock small pistol primers and typically use CCI 500’s. But I can get Winchester or Unis Genix for almost half the price. Any good reason to pay up for CCI?

Again, small pistol, NOT magnum. Almost exclusively shooting in Glocks and Sigs.

Thanks!

Personally I would buy the WSP. I haven’t had any negative issues with the bricks of them I have used over the years, but others may have a different experience.

I prefer Federal primers, but living here in Ca., I’ll take what I can get more often than not.

Stay safe.

I’ve never used them, but they and White River seem to have a fair number of negative comments if you do a broad interwebs search.

I do use Win 41’s for AR rounds and have zero issues.
Servicios are only SPP I buy/use. Not only cause I’m a cheap SOB but because they’ve worked 100% in my Berettas and Wilson 1911.

But back to original question, don’t have to use CCI. Winchester are as good IMHO. Never used Ginex but would.

Also seems like Win primers haven't had the best comments in the past few years either..............

I've had as acceptable results with the SyA's as I've had with CCI 500's....

YMMV.......

Genix SPP have completely replace CCI in my inventory, about 35k, for loading 9mm and .45ACP...do not try to save a few dollars by buying the brass primers as oppose the the nickel ones.

The Genix have been reliable in both seating fully and ignition...over about 10k rounds. They aren't sensitive enough to replace Federal SPP for my tuned revolvers as I'll get about one light strike every two cylinders. I'm down to my last 12k Federal SPP.

The only reason I used to buy CCI over Federal was their lower cost, when that difference doesn't exist, they lose their edge when making a purchase

We used Win SP primers last year when we depleted the CCI inventory. They worked fine, if they are available and cheaper than CCI I’d use them again. They powered Sig P320s with RMR 147 FPMWs and N320, if that helps.

I’ve heard good things about Ginex, mostly on this forum, and wouldn’t hesitate trying them at least.

I have used tens of thousands of Winchester small pistol primers since the 1980's. I used up all my nickle (or zinc) plated WSP, now I am working my way down the brass finish primers from post 1999, when the change over from bright to brass primers were made.

I use WSP in all calibers that I reload, from 32 S&W Long, 38 Special, 9mm, 357 Magnum, They work well in all applications. I did try some GINEX large pistol primers and within the limited number of rounds I fired in 45ACP, they all went bang, hit where I was aiming, and also hit where I was flinching 😭. I used so many WSP because Winchester primers were always the low cost ones, when I was buying primers, so I purchased a bunch.

No reason to pay up I have used Servicios Aventuras SP , Unis Ginex SP ( Nickel & Brass) Magtech SP , Winchester SP ….

Unis Ginex, SA and Magtech all will do what CCI and Winchester will do. I am currently using Magtech SP with no issues, I have used 10,000 of SA and 15,000 UG the only thing I will say and others have also stated is seat them deep as they do seat slightly harder but in some of my old brass that is a blessing.

I have no experience with Genix primers.
I have a lot of experience with Winchester LPP & LRP, but not much with SPP. I prefer CCI for SPP, but I wouldn’t hesitate to buy Winchester over CCI if there is a big price disparity.

I used Win for 40 years, then I went to Fiocchi, then Ginex, and now S/As.
Wins were the only ones I had trouble with, right when they started selling the black foiled ones. I haven't used the Wins since.

I'm at 8k S/A primers and they are completely reliable for me.
But between the two the OP has listed I would go with the nickle plated Ginex.

Black foiled ones??

Thanks for all the info. I found a few thousand CCI 500’s I had put in another drawer so I’m gonna hold off for a few months, but will keep watching inventory and sales.

Based on the feedback and current prices, I’ll probably buy several thousand Ginex and same Winchester to start and also add a thousand SA and Fiocci to try.

Anyone have experience with White River primers?

Gosh darn moths..............................hard to find in the Winter..................and all they want to do is eat sweaters.................. :p:rofl:

Black foiled ones??
Yes, they used to be red foiled back a couple years ago, then they took on a military contract and the military decided they wanted their own unique primers from Win so Win is selling them the red foiled ones they made for the past 50 years or more and started putting the black foil from their magnum primers in the standard primers that they now sell to us.
All the new win primers sold to civilians are black on the anvil side now.

Oh, okay, now I get it. I've certainly seen the different ones but didn't know anything about "foil"
