I am a 1911 guy, but in the early 90’s. I was assigned on a multi agency task force. They did not allow single actions so I bought a Smith 457. Without a doubt best out of the box 45 I ever had. Still got it, now magazines are crazy expensive, but that is one good gun if you can find one

Nice. There's one on Gunbroker now for $499, which is great if it's not trashed out. And a mag for $59, so you're right!

Is that a safety or a decocker?

Any idea if the 457 will be reliable with reduced recoil ammo? I'm not too scared of standard .45, but faster 2nd shots are not bad and I'm wondering if it would work for my spousal critter.

That's too bad. I have a Bersa 380CC and like it. I've heard that the most likely part to break on those is the cast-metal decocker lever.

Were you getting firing pin swipe?

Not a fan because their ownership is hyper-Moonie kooks. I *might* consider getting a used one...

I don't think the man running Kahr has much/anything to do with his father's religion/cult (the Moonies). I have not dug into it far though.
Not into holding a guy's ancestry against him.

He fell out with his mom and heads a splinter church named Rod of Iron Ministries. Fact.

I like firearms plenty, but when you appear wearing a crown made of rifle ammunition, which he has, you're a kook. My opinion.

Just looked up that ministry. Valid point, crown of ammo, hadn't seen that before. So, may not be a Moonie, but is odd all on his own :)

Two hairs off impossible! Has anyone put a trigger gauge on one of these? I swear it must be 28lbs...

Mine has eaten everything I have ever fed it. 200gr SWC, Russian steel case and +P JHP...all zero issues.

Apparently the Ruger P345 lies at the intersection of 'DA/SA45'&Cheap&Good* but not 'Smallish'.

*If the mag safety has been deactivated.

Nice. This old gun sounds like a winner in fitting my size goals (might prefer 6 + 1 for a little more compact grip, but it's OK), aluminum frame, modest price and decocker. About the biggest drawback I can think of is holster selection since it's long out of production.

I read on another forum that it shares mag compatibility with the 4516, and I see 4516 mags on Gunbroker for more reasonable prices, so that may be another point in its favor.

Another vote for the Sig 245 if you can find one.

That is correct. 4516 mags work in a 457. The 8 round 45xx series mags work also, but stick out a little bit. When I carried my 457, I carried the 8 round mag as a backup.

Yes, the 457 is the “economy” version of the 4516

Not the same guy although they are brothers. Hyung Jin (Sean) Moon runs the Rod of Iron ministries. Justin Moon is the founder and majority owner of Kahr Arms. "Kahr started in the U.S. by an American citizen (Moon is an American citizen), employs U.S. workers and continues to operate in the U.S., so it’s an American company." Guns.com Fact

    Thanks! Appreciate the correction.

Also, good to know as I rather like Kahr, Desert Eagle, BFR and some other things which they own now.

My mistake. I thought they were the same person. Barring evidence to the contrary, I'm assuming the wealth to start the company came through the Moonie church, and in any case I'd prefer not to do business with that family.

Ruger makes the American Compact with a thumb safety. I have the 9mm and it has the best striker trigger I've felt.

I don't want a safety. Hammer + decocker is my jam. The goal is nothing but one long pull between me and BANG. The Smith 457 where you can decock with a safety than put it back on Fire for carry is OK.
